Re: Miley Cyrus

This is so not about Miley Cyrus, but the whole issue of identity is coming up now. And I have been thinking about the NAACP chapter head Rachel Dolezal being exposed as biologically Caucasian, but saying that she has identified as African American since age five. Most people are saying she is crazy and a liar. But is it any different than Caitlyn Jenner identifying as female? What is the difference?
Could be. If you file a lawsuit regarding something related to race, then yes, it matters. If you apply for a grant or scholarship based on race, then yes, it matters. If you take a job such as head of certain racial group and you are not that race, then yes, it matters. It makes you a liar. It's one thing to identify with black, but to then go above and beyond and say your parents are lying, that's wrong and crossing the line.
That woman is a liar and a disgrace and mentally off if not just a liar. She had the nerve to say she wasn't sure if they were her real parents. No one saw her born, why should she believe the birth certificate? She looks just like her parents. Her hair is permed, dyed and she never looked that way before. She chooses to look that way, it's not like she doesnt believe she is white because she NATURALLY has black characteristics, she CHOOSES and puts on black characteristics.
In addition, I heard she filed a lawsuit years ago for racial discrimination AS a WHITE WOMAN in a predominantly black college. So yes, race matters many times.

The difference is that Caitlyn Jenner cannot just take off her femininity when it suits her. Rachel Dolezal can conveniently appropriate whatever aspects of black culture she wants for her benefit and discard of what she doesn't. You can't be transracial. What she's done is essentially want to claim blackness without the inherent identity. She's defrauded hundreds of people with her claim. She's involved in lawsuits where she claims she's white! Caitlyn Jenner is not male one day abd female the next - she has undergone the necessary surgeries and therapies to transition genders. On the surface people think these are two similar situations but they're not. Caitlyn Jenner is not claiming to be something she's not - she's absolutely female. Rachel Dolezal is not absolutely black.

Can you or someone explain then how you can identify as three genders, but it is not possible to be "transracial"?? If you feel like you have three genders, doesn't that imply some switching back and forth?
Rachel is not the best example because clearly she withheld the full truth, making her a liar but it got me thinking.
And I don't think Caitlyn has had the full physically transforming surgery. So what does that mean? Genetically Caitlyn will always be male. No surgery will change that she has XY chromosomes. Race is a social construct, so being transracial seems plausible to me.

There's been a lot of scholarly studies on transgendered because there's been evidence that brain activity in transsexual people is different than that of cisgendered people. As for transracial, this article sums it up.

I realize that for a lot of people, the discussions around gender are difficult to understand. It's easy to just say, I don't get it...Why can't they be normal...What does it mean? Because, traditionally, we've been brought up believing that there are 2 genders, and those 2 genders belong together in the traditional sense. Not to be on my soapbox, but I've been educating myself more recently and have learned a lot about what individual sexuality and gender does or doesn't mean.
This is a helpful infographic. To be clear, this is NOT a cut and dried issue. And tolerance...a whole lot of tolerance which is sorely lacking..goes a long, long way in our world today.
I'm sorry but IMO this is a joke and an insult to those who are TRULY transgender.
ETA: Not saying that you the poster are a joke, but that any who identifies as a "demiguy" or whatever nonsense other than male/female/trans.

Miley Cyrus
For what it's worth, there are many people who are born one sex, but GENETICALLY actually are the other. This is thought to be one reason for transgender. What happens is that biologically speaking, genetically speaking a person might have the XY chromosome, but due to hormonal insufficiency in utero, they do not develop male reproductive organs, but female.

I'm still learning about all the different 'non-binaries' that exist, and admit I hardly know the difference among them all...but I'm willing to be open minded and educate myself and try to understand better. I feel like this is one of those areas where unless we're going through it, we will never truly understand what they feel, how they feel, etc.

Re: Miley Cyrus
I have a question. And just as a note, I am genuinely interested in an answer. I support Caitlyn Jenner and other individuals who transition from one gender to another. I'm not asking this question out of malice.
Why are binary categories evil, but we can create say five or six other categories to label people in term of their gender expression? Two are bad, but five are okay? Why even bother with labels at all?

Re: Miley Cyrus
I don't get the Tri-gender thing because obviously the way gender categorization is now a days there are more than tree categories. This all a way to separate sex which is male and female, you can't change that. Well there also is hermaphroditism, so does that count as a third sex? Idk...
As far as transracial which I didn't know this terms existed but I can see how this happens. We have such a melting pot of races! I feel like it's how you are raised. Look at Snooki? My son at 6 identifies himself as Hispanic, I can't imagine telling him no you aren't. I have Honduras and Italian from my dad. I wasn't raised with him and didn't find out till I was 18. So I don't identify with that at all. Meanwhile, my last name is Honduras and I didn't know that. Lol
