I don't think so.
Maybe for us adults, it can seem like she makes a spectacle of things...but for young people who like her, for her to be like "hey, this is cool, who are we to judge, everyone deserves to be happy" - that kind of thing - it will resonate with them. And that's important for a multitude of reasons.

I realize that for a lot of people, the discussions around gender are difficult to understand. It's easy to just say, I don't get it...Why can't they be normal...What does it mean? Because, traditionally, we've been brought up believing that there are 2 genders, and those 2 genders belong together in the traditional sense. Not to be on my soapbox, but I've been educating myself more recently and have learned a lot about what individual sexuality and gender does or doesn't mean.
This is a helpful infographic. To be clear, this is NOT a cut and dried issue. And tolerance...a whole lot of tolerance which is sorely lacking..goes a long, long way in our world today.

I agree. Im totally supportive of the whoe transgender thing but I think, especially after looking at that chart that was posted, it's getting way out of hand. How do you associate with three genders? Last I checked there was only two. And agender? That's not possible. I applaud her for doing things lie this to promote acceptance on the issue but she takes it too far and I think in the end she's really not helping anyone.

Being trigender means identifying as male, female, and any other variety of the genderqueer spectrum above.
Agender means having no gender - not identifying with male OR female, existing as a non-binary. Gender-neutrality means showing equality among both male/female, pronouns...being equal to both.
The point that people are trying to make is that gender and sexuality do not go hand in hand NOR do they exist in concrete parameters, it is very fluid.

I realize that it's difficult for people to understand. ou don't know how people feel on the inside, you are not inside their brain to understand the difficulties associated with gender and sexuality.

My only problem is using a plural pronoun for an individual.
But I can see how the English language doesn't lend itself to someone who doesn't identify as a single pronoun.....so I'll have to learn to live with it.

This is so not about Miley Cyrus, but the whole issue of identity is coming up now. And I have been thinking about the NAACP chapter head Rachel Dolezal being exposed as biologically Caucasian, but saying that she has identified as African American since age five. Most people are saying she is crazy and a liar. But is it any different than Caitlyn Jenner identifying as female? What is the difference?
