Merrick or Syosset- which to choose?
Which town would you choose if both of you are commuting, you have a small child so schools are important and you want somewhere down to earth with stuff to do for the kids?

I would go with Merrick. I think the Babylon line has many more trains and a good on time record with the LIRR.

I take the train from Syosset. Both are great towns. I would choose Merrick bc its a shorter commute.

I grew up in Merrick - the trains were great and you are near the beach. Are you looking south of Merrick Rd.

Merrick. But, i am a south shore girl. Better fishing (if you are interested) and the commute is so easy to NYC! The house types... many to choose from. Schools, great!

I'd pick Syosset because I prefer the area. Depending on the area, you are close to major roadways also. You also have the Hicksville train station not that far away.

I am a northshore girl so I would pick Syosset.. I am biased because I llive in the town but I couldn't be happier...
Regarding trains--depending on where you live in Syosset ( It is huge) you have Hicksville, which as just as many trains as Merrick and parking is cheap -$20 for 2 years or Syosset ( parking $$ wise is the same) but not as many trains as Hicksville...
It is all preference... I am very happy here in Syosset and the school system is stellar...

I would say Syosset. I love the town, and the neighborhoods are so nice.
Merrick is a great town also but I prefer Syosset.

Merrick is nice too, much easier train line. SD has a great rep.

Syosset is on the Huntington/Pt Jeff line. It's 50 minutes on the express to Penn in the morning.. Definitely shorter commute on the Merrick line, I think? I took the train for years out of Syosset and never had any issues.
