MC and morning sickness are they related??
I had terrible morning sickness (really all-day sickness), this pregnancy and last pregnancy.
When people hear that I am sick, they tell me that I should consider myself lucky, because if you are having morning sickness that means you have a "strong" pregnancy and have a lower chance at mc.
Is this true?? Did anyone who had a mc not feel sick?

Re: MC and morning sickness are they related??
Yes it is true. I was a high risk pregnancy and my doc kept reminding me that it meant my hormone levels were pretty high and it was my bodys way of reacting to it. In fact it was a combination of having too much progesterone and other factors that made my pregnancy so awful.

Re: MC and morning sickness are they related??
I am oppisite.............I am having a TOTALLY normal, healthy & string pregnancy. I have not been sick once. I was paranoid in the whole 1st trimester that something must be wrong. I am now 21 1/2 weeks & baby is doing perfect. My sister is 11 weeks & things seem perfect without MS.
I hope that no morning sickness does NOT equal less of a healthy pregnancy!

Re: MC and morning sickness are they related??
IMO - this is a really dangerous assumption. I had MS the 6&7 week, and it faded the 8&9 week. After reading all these posts that MS=a strong pregnancy I went bananas and called a million drs offices and tried to get an emergency sono - and I would cry myself to sleep because I was sure something was wrong.
after 2 weeks on edge, I threw up the day of my "emergency" sono. The dr's played it off as being a nervous first time mom.... which pizzed me off even more!!!
My pregnancy is fine, my MS still comes and goes with NO pattern at all.
Everyone is different - and wish I hadn't made the leap that no MS was bad, because it only stressed me out... which was bad for the baby.

Re: MC and morning sickness are they related??
My experience that is not true... I had zero M/S with both pregnancies... I know a lot of people who don't get sick and have great pgs. I personally do not think that holds any truth...
I know plenty of people who had m/s and then miscarried as well...

Re: MC and morning sickness are they related??
I had morning sickness the day that I miss carried my first pregnancy. I was so nauseous I had to tell me 2nd period class and then I started bleeding during my 9th period class. I think every person and every pregnancy is different.

During my first tri... that's all I heard. Not sure of the relevance, but I ALWAYS heard it.....

Same here and I am 19w1d. The only time I have threw up was a few hours after eating Pizza Hut one night. Obviously, I haven't touched it since!

Re: MC and morning sickness are they related??
not entirely true or should ever be based on that. What those people are trying to telling you is that any sign of morning sickness is a good sign because it means the baby is developing and your body is responding to the hormone changes. I have Hyperemisis Gravadarum which is classified as a pregnancy disease better known as extreme morning sickness. I don't think you want it because I lost my last pregnancy due to it.
Don't listen to everyone! I grealty envy those that never get it or just get a taste of it. I consider you all the 'lucky' ones Every persons body is genetically different and MS is in your make up.

Re: MC and morning sickness are they related??
I worked with a nurse and she said there really was no correlation - you hear all the time that people who have had healthy pregnancies wouldn't even have known they were pregnant if they didn't gain weight - I was very ill, and everyone told me that it was a good thing....
I have to say probably the one good thing about it is that you do know you are still pregnant early on if you are that sick all the time - KWIM?

My SIL had absolutely zero morning sickness. She actually had one of the easiest pregnancies I have ever heard of. She gave birth to my beautiful nephew.

Re: MC and morning sickness are they related??
I don't think there is a direct correlation but I do believe it is tell tale FOR SOME (please don't freak out ladies without M/S or pg symptoms). And I believe it could foreshadow something if it goes away - meaning a missed abortion (when the baby dies but you don't know it and that's the technical term - certainly not what I would want to call it).
This is what happened to me, - and I knew something was wrong. I had pregnancy symptoms - no real M/S yet, but I was exhausted, had sore boobs, etc in the beginning of my first pg. I couldn't stay up past 8:30PM and I usually go to bed at 12AM/1AM. All the sudden, mid-6th week or so, I felt great - like you're supposed to feel at the end of your first trimester, going into your second. I was up to all hours of the night again and just didn't "feel " pg anymore. HOWEVER, i think the difference is that I did before that. My symptoms went away b/c the baby stopped developing - which I didn't learn until my first sono at 8w1d and I didn't miscarry naturally until 9w (even though we learned the baby died at 6w3d). The point is, I had symptoms to start with and they faded too soon - I knew it. I said to my husband on the way to the MD that morning that I was SO nervous - I knew something happened. And, when the MD spoke to me before she did the sono, I remember saying, "I don't even feel pregnant anymore".
Some women just don't have pg symptoms from the get go - IMO, that's a different story. To me, that just means the hormonal changes didn't affect you as much from the start or your body didn't react as drastically.
Anyway, I hope I made my opinion clear on this without scaring anyone (and it is just what I think). My thought is that M/S or symptoms FADING (not at the end of the first trimester but early on) can POSSIBLY mean something. But then again, there are many women that have good days and bad days throughout their first trimester - just b/c you're feeling good one day doesn't mean you're going to loss your baby.
But, my point is, USUALLY if you're having terrible MS then it can be taken as a sign that pg hormone are affecting you. If there are pg hormones pumping through you, then clearly your baby is still developing.

See this is how I believe it's different(from what happened to me)- MANY women don't feel pg from the beginning and have non-existent MS - it certainly does not mean that their pg is in danger.

Re: MC and morning sickness are they related??
although true that morning sickness means your hormone levels are high, that has nothing to do with whether you are at risk for a miscarriage. miscarriages happen for MANY reasons, hormones only being one of them.
so if you have MS, don't assume you're safe from a MC. and if you don't have MS (like me), don't assume something is wrong.

I have really bad MS right now, and people have been telling me this . I'm beginning to think they say this just to make me feel better about being sick Just like when people tell you rain on your wedding day brings good luck

I think it is an old wives tale that people tell you to make you feel better. I know many people who had no morning sickness and had wonderful healthy pregnancies. I on the other hand am still getting morning sickness and Im 28 weeks

Re: MC and morning sickness are they related??
M/S also runs in families..... my family has very mild to no cases, and my friends family has HORRIBLE cases lasting until they give birth....
I think m/s is a good sign becuase hormone levels are high, but its absence is NOT a bad sign......

Re: MC and morning sickness are they related??
The two are not correlated. Genetics and the overall condition of your body has more to do with morning sickness. Some people tolerate the hormones well, and some people do not. I personally got better & healthier through my pregnancy, but I know that many women are just flattened by the changes.

I think its just one of those things people say to make you feel better about being sick - kind of like, rain on your wedding day is good luck
I had no MS with either pregnancy.

Re: MC and morning sickness are they related??
I was never sick and had a great pregnancy. I don't think the two are related. I think it has to do with how your body handles the pregnancy hormones.
