Low lying Placenta????

The Ob that I saw the other day (which is not my reg Ob) called me this morning with my test results and said that all mt bloodwork was good, but that I should speak with my reg Ob about my Low Lying Placenta. And then he said 'Have a good day!' and hung up!!!!!!!! I'm a little nervous becuase what I read on the internet (which I know is bad to do!) is not such good things.... anyone have this or know how common it is?? I'm a little freaked out Chat Icon

Re: Low lying Placenta????

i don't know how common it is, but i do know that if any part of the placenta is covering the cervix you will have to have a c-section. i don't know what happens in the case of a "low-lying" placenta. plus, keep in mind that it can move up - they often do.

definitely talk to your OB about this Chat Icon

Re: Low lying Placenta????

I have heard that the placenta could definitely still move and you still have plenty of time for that to happen. Just talk to your OB.

Jo you are still early in your pregnancy. It could move up, which most do. But, if you want to ease your mind call your OB in NY to confirm.

Re: Low lying Placenta????

Good morning!!! at my 16 week anatomy screen the tech pointed out I had the same thing. When the doc came in to give me the "all clear" she mentioned that its REALLY common and in about 80-90% of these cases it corrects itself!!
At my 22 week anatomy screen, it had done just that. My placenta rocks!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Don't worry, its VERY likely yours will do the same thing!! And once it corrects itself you don't have to worry about it "slipping" back down (that was my first question after they told me it was fine :) )

HTH!!!

Re: Low lying Placenta????

I had/have it

At least he TOLD YOU

Mine simple figured it was no big deal (which it really isnt early on) and even though the 12week sono showed it, no one said a thing.

At 14w I started to have blood with cramps. Freaked me the heck out.

Found out about my low lying placenta and that it was causing a little blood to get into my uterus which irrated the uterus causing the cramping until the blood was expelled. We're talking bright red, not just a lil bit of blood!

But since then I've been on 'pelvic rest' which is no nookie for this cookie .. and although I still had another bleed, it wasn't as much or as painful and i've been fine.

My baby's doing fine and it seems my placenta to have moved back to a normal spot.

I hope this makes you feel a little better. Feel free to FM if you want more info.

Re: Low lying Placenta????

I had it and my doctor was not concerned about it at all. Basically i was put on pelvic bed rest until my 28 week appointment to see if the placenta moved up at all.

My doctor said that there is a less than 1% chance that it won't move up. Most move up as the baby moves up in your stomach. Chat Icon

At this point, it's really nothing to worry about unless you have some bleeding. Chat Icon

Re: Low lying Placenta????

I was told I had a low lying placenta during one of my earlier sonos. The doctor told me no sex and no heavy lifting. The next time I had a sono it had moved up.

I hear that a lot of people who have the low lying placenta have it move out of the way by the time the baby is born.

Re: Low lying Placenta????

It is somewhat common. I found out that I had a low lying placenta and I believe by 28 weeks it worked itself out and moved up. Try not to worry, it usually corrects itself.

My dr told me the same thing... and that if you see any blood to call immediately. Worst case scenario is that if it dosnt move, you have to have a c-section- but most do move... im still waiting on mine to move 1 more cm up... but the silver lining in it is that I get to have a sono each month for them to check on it so i get to see Chat Icon a lot!

Re: Low lying Placenta????

I had it with my PG and 1 yr ago (tomorrow) I delivered a healthy baby. They found it at 14 weeks & mine did not move. We knew if it did not that I was having a c-section, and that I had to be careful of certain things. No BDing, no heavy lifting, or excessive bending or squatting, no hard workouts, no heels. I did bleed on & off during my pg, but mostly spotting. I went on bed rest 3 weeks prior to delivering DS, and he was born early.

The chances of your placenta not moving are so slim. I think it was a 2% chance at 14 weeks, but do not quote me on that.

Definitely make a point to speak directly with the OB you are most comfortable with, and make sure you have all the information you need.

True... if you are early in the pregnancy still you have plenty of time for it to move.
