Lovenox/Heparin Girls
I've wrote about this before, but I'm terrified of switching to Heparin.
I've read mixed things about it. It's a Class C drug so it's "unknown whether it causes harm to the fetus."
I just worry about how my body will react to it. I know I'm fine on lovenox and would rather just stay on it :(
I've talked a little bit with my doctor and he's not worried at all about Heparin (but he's very laid back in general).
Has anyone insisted on staying on Lovenox? I know they switch because Heparin has a shorter half life, but cant I just not take the Lovenox if I have contractions close together?
I dont want an epi anyway (want a natural birth).
My only fear with staying on Lovenox is if I need a C-section and the 24 hours hasn't passed, I'd need general anesthesia.
It's just making me get so nervous.
So I'd love to hear from those who had there babies or those who havent what you did/what your plan is?
ANYONE stay on lovenox and not switch?

Re: Lovenox/Heparin Girls
Hi, I'm only in the second trimester. I am currently on Lovenox (40mg. 2x a day) and the plan is to switch to Heparin at the end as well. I see Dr. Braverman, Kofinas (the best in my opinion), and Pilliteri. They have all three assured me numerous times that this protocol is used OFTEN with no problems. Having said that, I totally understand your reservations...I really do think we have to trust our doctors though.

See, I read a recent post on here about the doctors you see (and I have heard great things about them), and the post said their protocol was to stay on the Lovenox until the end and then set up an induction date so you would know when to stop the Lovenox. The post said they avoided Heparin.
I do trust my Dr...I guess it just makes me worried because all these drs have different protocols. I know they have our best interest in mind, but it's just scary. How do we know what's best?

Re: Lovenox/Heparin Girls
i am also in 2nd trimester but i am , on the opposite, is willing to go on heparin, but not to have general anestaesia(sp). I do not why i am quite scared of it my ob, on the other side, is against heparin, i think i mentioned before that he said he thinks it causes HELLP syndrome. So i do not know. I still have time to figure this out. But.. if you do not want epi, i do not see why you can't just stay on lovenox and not switch. I guess they are afraid you might change your mind about epi once you are in labor?

You know, same as Melissa. I see Kofinas, Pillitteri, Braverman trifecta but they never even mentioned me coming off of Lovenox and onto Heparin. In fact, I thought Lovenox was only 12 hours anyway?

Re: Lovenox/Heparin Girls
With DD, I never switched, I just came off of Lovenox a few days before my induction.
We DS, I switched to heprin at the end. I had never heard of any issues with.
I'm supposed to follow the same protocol and come off the lovenox/switch to heprin towards the end.
Now, you've got me nervous.
I guess the reason they want you to come off the lovenox is because you could go into labor before your induction date and that could cause issues.

I remember reading your post. That actually made me start to question going on Heparin. I told my Dr what yours said, and he said it doesn't cause HELLP. That's totally separate.
I know Drs have different views, but it scares me that some people in the medical field think Heparin can do more damage than good..P:Lus, it's a CLASS C drug!
I'm also terrified of general anesthisia! I just figured labor takes awhile...If I stop the Lovenox once I begin contracting, I'm sure it will be out of my system by the actual time of labor...no? Has anyone done this on here?????
Ive been reading the Lovenox Ladies forum on babycenter and some have done it there. There is a lot of mixed opinions on Heparin there. I want to be educated, but maybe I shouldnt have even started reading all of this.

Lovenox is 24 hours. Heparin is 12 hours. If you're still early, they might not have brought it up yet.

Sorry for making you nervous! I just read too much mixed things and I'm freaking myself out. I know I should probably just trust my Dr, but after reading some stuff, I'd rather just stay on Lovenox... UGHH

ii will not rely on it. what if you progress fast? but again, if you are dead set against epi, then there should be no issue with lovenox, even if you deliver a few hours after the shot, i think

I'm not worried about the epi. I know I definitely don't want one (and I know people say you can change your mind), but I'd rather if I didn't even have the option!
I'm worried that if I need to have an emergency c-section for some reason, I'd have to have general anesthsia if I took the shot within 24 hours.
