Lovenox/Heparin girls
Did you/will you get induced?
It seems my doctor thinks that is the best option when you're on that med. He said he would go over it more as we get closer and go over the pros and cons.
I really want a natural birth with as few interventions as possible. I do not want an induction. I feel like most of the times inductions lead to a c-section. I'd rather just wait until baby is ready to come, unless there is some emergency. Of course I would do anything for my baby.
I just dont get why you would need to be induced because of being on blood thinners.
lovenox/heparin girls please share your experiences with past births or what your dr has explained to you. TIA

Re: Lovenox/Heparin girls
i did not. i went 40w2d and my doc suggested c-section at that point since i had ZERO progress.
if i were effaced and dilated, he had no problem with induction however.
ETA - my doctor feared stress to the uterus with induction. he said that when you have a clotting disorder, your uterus doesnt always respond as well after a long, hard labor and bleeding could become a problem. blood thinners make this situation worse.

Re: Lovenox/Heparin girls
So you had a c-section at 40 weeks? He wouldnt let you go 2 weeks late?
So basically, should I prepare myself for a c-section or induction and not letting my body birth naturally like I planned?
I've never had a clot or anything. I have MTHFR which is a gene mutation that can cause blood clots.

Re: Lovenox/Heparin girls
i also have MFTHR and on lovenox. Initial plan was to transfer me to heparin at 36 w, b/c you can not have epidural with lovenox. So, at my last apt, ob said that he is not liking the idea of heparin, since he thinks that heparin often contributes to drop in platelets, which can casue HELLP syndrome. So... he suggested: either vaginal without epi ( i said no f.. way) or c-section with general anaestaesia (sp), which i also do not want. I guess we will take it from here. Even though my ob is very conservative, he also mentioned induction and c section. but that might be due to other crap that i have on top of MFTHR.

at 40w1d appointment, my options were to have the csection tomorrow OR wait 4 more days to see if I would go on my own. if I didnt go on my own, i was having the csection.
other factors, BIG baby and high fluid and the biggest factor was zero progress. it was like I was 20weeks pregnant ... he was high and he wasnt moving.
i decided just to do it. i would have the section and be home before those 4 days were up.
it wasnt bad at all i promise!!!

Re: Lovenox/Heparin girls
I also answered on the parenting post:
I was on lovenox my entire pregnancy. I never switched to Heparin and stopped my lovenox injection 2 days before my scheduled c/s.
I was told that since I was taking lovenox that I would have to be induced or have a c/s in my 39th week and that I was not allowed to go to my due date because of the clotting issues.
Honestly, I just wanted to do what was safe for me and DD. I have a history of pelvic disproportion in my family and had a feeling that an induction would just lead to a c/s so I just chose the c/s.
You have to do what you feel is best but all the woman I have spoken to that are on lovenox/heparin have all had either an induction or c/s.
My doctor never said that if I choose c/s it will have to be with general anethesia. I was able to get the spinal epidural and be awake for the birth of my DD.

Thank you. Ugh. Im just really bummed because I wasn't aware that it was definitely induction or c/s because of the blood thinners.
Of course I only want what is best for my baby, and I know I cant plan her birth, but my one fear and my one big desire was no c-section.
Hopefully, the induction will allow me to have a vaginal birth still.
I know I have time to worry. I just got bummed out after hearing this today.
Thanks everyone for sharing your stories.

I dont want an epi, so I wonder if my dr will go for that option? Would he induce you if you stayed on Lovenox and did the vaginal birth with no epi?

Re: Lovenox/Heparin girls
Just wanted to share that I was on lovenox through my last pregnancy and went into early labor at 34 weeks. I had taken my last lovenox shot only hours before water broke and had both an epi and tried for vaginal birth for hours before finally having an emergency c-section which i was awake for. Not ideal probably and this time I will hopefully switch to heparin and have a scheduled c-section but everyone knew i was on lovenox at the hospital and no on batted an eye. I have been with a high risk perinatologist since my first pregnancy and again now.
One of my close friends had 3 vaginal births on lovenox (switching to heparin) and had an epidural every time so i really do think it is possible.
I know every doctor is different and not sure the rest of your history but just sharing. At the end of the day you will have a little baby and that you are all safe is most important!

Re: Lovenox/Heparin girls
I was on Lovenox my last pregnancy (and this one) and knew I was going to be a c-section anyway, so I didn't know there was no choice about induction, going the regular way or c-section.
But just so you know, please don't stress too much about the c-section. I've had 2 so far and honestly, you're not up and out of bed quickly, but the healing happens really quickly. I had gone through regular labor AND c-section healing with my first pregnancy and the c-section healing, for me, anyway, was by far better. It took me weeks and weeks to heal from the regular labor. The c-section I was healed in a week!
Try not to stress too much!
