letting nanny go
I am leaving my job at the end of the summer to be a SAHM.
we've had my nanny for 2 years and she's been great, but since i'll be staying home obviously we have to let her go.
I'm so nervous!!! we are giving her 5 weeks notice because I want to make sure she has time to find a new job. I just hope she stays with us for the 5 weeks and doesn't leave us sooner.
any advice?

she lives in northport. I think I saw her post something. she has twin infants and a toddler right?
after I break the news to my nanny i'll tell her about that and see if she's interested.

Yes. Dd is 2 and she has twin boys about 2/3 months. It would be 10-5 and she works from home. She's awesome and her dd is really sweet.

Oh and don't worry. I know I would be anxious too but it's for a good reason. You're becoming a sahm. Not like it's just that you're letting her go to get someone else.

Re: letting nanny go
we had to do this last year because we were moving and it was heartbreaking. we all cried. we also gave about a month's notice. we didn't want to give too much time that she found something and left us in a bind, but enough time that we didn't put her at a big disadvantage. it would be nice if you could try to help her line up interviews by posting on sites like this or other mom groups you're a part of on fb. i also don't know if you've previously agreed to severance pay, but i know some families offer that in addition to the X weeks notice.

we're giving 5 weeks notice, which I think is enough time for her to find something but hopefully she doesn't leave us too soon!
after I speak with her and see what she wants to do, i'll post something on here to see if anyone is interested in hiring her.
I didn't think to give severance but we will probably give her something.

If you are worried that she will leave sooner give an incentive to stay. Like if you stay until this date we will pay you an extra week. That way you don't have to worry about her leaving in 2 weeks if she finds another job. GL
