Landscaper or DIY?
What do most of you do when it comes to landscaping? I'm trying to convince DH to hire someone to do it so he has more time on the weekend. I guess he enjoys doing it because he is not budging
Please vote. Maybe I can convince him to get a landscaper if the results are high enough.

we both agreed on a landscaper. i do gardening, the landscaper basically mows the lawn and picks up leaves. we have half an acre, so it would take forever to mow.

landscaper all the way. Our time on the weekends is too valuable. We work hard and long hrs and it's worth it.

Last year, I mowed the grass, etc... Since I was PG this year, I had to promiss DH I would not do it and we have someone to mow the grass every week. I have to say, it's a nice luxury.
But I will be back into mowing next year. MUCH cheaper to do it yourself but like someone posted above, it all depends how valuable your free time is.

Basic weekly maintance DH does it and we have a half acre
Our backyard has a garden area that was completely overgrown. I called it "Downtown Baghdad" It would have taken him forever to pull the weeds, lay paper, and mulch over it.
We hired someone. It took an ENTIRE day and FIVe guys to weed wack it, spray it, lay the paper and lay out over 30 yards of mulch Well worth the money, especially since, I can't help him anymore. Now he just maintains it.

DH and I alternate mowing weekends and I take care of the gardening and the rest of the upkeep.
Our property is not big by any stretch of the imagination. It takes 15 minutes to mow both the front and the back - we just couldn't justify hiring someone to do that.

DH loves to take care of the grass and yard. We both do the gardening together. If it was something we hated doing then we would hire someone, but we both enjoy it!!!

we don't hire anyone to do anything DH mows the lawn & weedwhacks, I do most other outdoor upkeep. Any major landscaping projects like building stuff our big changes we do together as a project. We enjoy doing it.

We are DIY bc of the cost and it's painful. Im not an outdoor yard person in bug season plus I have 3 little kids (and lots of bushes and all kinds of shrubs) My DH works a lot and isnt really a "take pride in my yard" person so he does cut the grass but I think our yard ends up looking so pathetic compared to how it could look if it was maintained by professionals. If the time/interest isnt there and you can swing the pro cost, I think you should DEFINITELY do it!! I was just cutting the bushes this week and I hate it with a passion, all kinds of bug noises around me.

I've been trying to convince DH to hire people to do everything around the house. It takes him forever to do anything and it really eats up free time. So, hopefully your DH isn't as stubborn (or at least better at completing household tasks).

Same here. Sometimes I think he loves it more than me. He likes doing it, looks at it like its a hobby. I just say he's too damn cheap to hire someone.

DH mows the lawn and I take care of the flowers, weeding the beds, planting new shrubs, trees, trimming, etc.
I look at it as a workout every time I am out there! I just couldn't hire someone to do it!

Lucky for me he also loves to plant trees & shrubs, weed the garden, etc.. He is very anal about his landscaping!!

I take car of the lawn and maintenance. I've also created a Japanese-themed area, with a Zen-garden spot, with a Buddha statue, small black stones. It's in a white stone area with a small pond, dragon fountain, and a cement light (that I wired myself). I replace the rotting wooden retaining walls with blocks, and cut a bunch of them to fit the shape I wanted. Laid pavers down to replace the cracked sidewalk. Put wood chips in the side yard, and a section of yard along the road that couldn't grow anything anyway, not even weeds. It's nothing fabulous, but I like it, and I did it myself.

Well a landscaper does a lot more than just cut your lawn.
We had lawn maintenance guys --- but they were really ruining everything -- so we are back to DIY.

I love mowing the grass & taking care of our grounds. Since we planted it all ourselves, I just feel a lot better doing the upkeep. I have to say too, nothing against landscapers, but out of all our neighbors on the block whom use landscapers, their lawns are all burned up. Our lawn is so green & plush!!!!
It all depends on the free time you have & what you want to spend the time doing. For DH & I, we do it every Saturday morning & by the afternoon we have time to do other things.

We have a landscaper. We have had them (well, several different companies) for over 9 years. There is no way my DH would spend his weekend mowing...ever.
