respect the fact that breast can feed a baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it needs to be taught that it's not a bad thing!!!!!!!!!! IT'S NOT SEXUAL!!!!!!!!

I can get in board with this bc on the whole you are right

But in my daughters pre school class it also needs to be respected that I don't want her learning it's ok to lift up your shirt

This is basically it!!!!!

Its all about the appropriate place to teach preschool (young kids) about BF. School is not that location . That is something should be left up to each family to discuss at home.

Breastfeeding is indeed not sexual at all, of course. However, to say the sole purpose of breasts are to feed babies is not true. Breasts have a dual purpose given the context. Young women don't wear push-up bras and super low-cut tops in order to breastfeed (if they have no kids). That purpose is to be sexual or look sexually attractive. We have to protect children, not from the breastfeeding, but from the sexualization of breasts. What if she played breastfeeding with another child, as opposed to an adult? We wouldn't want that.

That is absolutely NOT a purpose of breasts. It's a relatively new association that society has created. But the actual biological purpose of breasts has nothing to do with being sexually attractive. At all.

Is there a manual somewhere made by our Creator that officially assigned a definitive purpose to each and every body part? Breasts feed, arouse, make our shirts look nice, some women get surgery to make them bigger or replace them when cancer takes them away. Let them serve whatever purpose you want. It's unreasonable to say that because breasts do not serve a sexual purpose to you in any way that others must feel the same way.

As it is natural to BF it is also natural in the primitive instinct of sexual selection to see the dual function of arousal. Of course each purpose is independent of each other and appropriate in certain situations.

I don't want tiny terror lifting her shirt for no reason!!!! But if she did it to imitate me I wouldn't have a problem with it.

It's like from the age of 3-12 you're not allowed to teach little girls things.
Then poof it's ok for schools to teach sex ed and/or reproductive organs.

I'm very pro having TT feeding baby dolls and her little brother with a bottle.

For me it's all about normalizing breast and what their meant to do.

Re: Kids pretending to breastfeed at school

I thinks I lost the whole point of this thread. However I think the teacher was correct.

My DD teacher had ask each child what was important to them My DD said God and talked a little about it. She told me the teacher told her that this was not a topic to be discussed in class. I respect the teacher reasons as to why this topic shouldn't be discussed.

I don't believe that the teacher has the right to teach the birds and the bees thats for me to do.

What about guns, I am pro gun but don't expect that to be a topic discussed in school either..

Just because you feel strongly about breast feeding doesn't mean it should be a school topic. the old saying applies To each his own.

And that's awesome. And your right as a mom
To do that in your home

I would rather talk to my kids at home when I am ready and the age my dh and I want

So at preschool and at 4 I am not ready for that

So just as not wrong you are for not caring if TT lifts her shirt I am just not as wrong for not wanting my daughter to

if this was directed towards my post I didn't say breast feeding was the birds and the bees. I said i didn't want the teacher teaching my child about the birds and the bees (e.g where babies come from and sex)!

Re: Kids pretending to breastfeed at school

Going to summarize my feelings in the madness of this debate : 1. If the girl was lifting her shirt she should have been told to put it down 2. If she wasn't, then i dont think it was appropriate for the teacher to admonish her. 3. I think it would have been fully appropriate for the teacher to give a short explanation of how moms feed different ways and make it scientific by linking it to mammalian behavior. 4. I don't understand why a parent would care if this was explained to children. If you care, on some level, you yourself see breast feeding as taboo. You are not fully comfortable. 5. From an evolutionary perspective breasts are there to nourish a child. Formula is a blip in the trajectory of human history. None of us would exist if our ancestors did not breast feed. So while breasts are sexual their scientific use is as milk glands. We are not different from a goat or a cow. 6. I am not blaming the teacher, she was in a tough spot. However, I think her reaction is representative of the stigma that still exists around breast feeding. That is what is upsetting people who bf thier baby, of plan to or are just pro-bf.

One more thing : I bet money that those who wouldn't want the teacher discussing breast feeding in school did not breast feed or do not plan to breast feed themselves. I think it speaks to how normal the topic is to you.

Re: Kids pretending to breastfeed at school

A teacher is in a lose lose situation here. As you can see based on the this thread two sides feel very strongly. If teacher allows it parent complains that she allowed a student to lift her shirt and whatever you're feelings are on BF it is worse for teacher to allow child to lift her shirt and not correct her, period. As an educator it is a no brainer
For me. I cannot have students of any age showing their body and not correct the behavior, lawsuit !!

I would not want the teacher to teaching my child in preschool. I did try to breast feed so it has zero to do with my opinion on the situation.

My opinion is what I think should be taught in school to my son at a very young age. Some of the kids in my son's daycare class might be able to handle the info but I know of a few that would not.

Leave certain teaching to the parent.

That is your right of course and I respect it. However, that attitude is usually associated with taboo or controversial subjects like sex, politics and religion. I am not sure why scientific information about how a baby ( and all mammals) are fed is anything but factual and benign.

Also applauding this.

I'm assuming all the moms opposed to their child watching another child mimic breastfeeding (I am assuming shirt down) in the classroom will also oppose Chinese New Year celebrations where chopsticks are used and introduced. They should also insist that all children use ONLY knife, fork and spoon because alternative feeding methods should be explained at home by parents and not teachers.

It's simply a way of feeding a baby...just like a bottle is. It's not that serious.

I BF my DD and certainly plan to BF my next due soon and I would not want my DD discussing BFing with her friends in school at 3-4 years old. But I am also not one of those rabid BFing mothers that goes nuts with every varying opinion.

However like I've said before, the OP has disappeared and we have no idea WTF happened. So I don't know why everyone is going to crazy when we don't even know what exactly went down.

Not for nothing- but I think you putting your clearly seen nipple on a message board is a little ridiculous/obnoxious. We get it- you breastfeed. Yippee for you.

I have zero issue with BFing or BFing in public. More power to you.

I was uncomfortable BFing my own kids, because while science dictates they are for BFing- for me, they are purely sexual. The NERVE endings in my breasts that cause arousal made me feel very weird about having my kids BF. My breasts are very sensitive and play a big part in my sexuality.

Like I said- I have zero issue with others BFing and my DD has seen up close and personal a co-worker BF her baby. If her teacher taught her that breasts are for babies- i'd think it was odd that she was teaching 5 year olds about it, but I probably wouldn't complain and would tell DD her teacher was correct.

I feel bad for the teacher and some of you need to get your heads out of your asses and realize that not everyone thinks the same way as you.

my DS was 26 months when DS #2 came along. He would take my pump and put it to his bare chest and pretend to BF. He didn't go to school and talk about it but if he did, IT IS NATURAL and I would be proud!
