Kid teaching cursing in Kindergarten
Ok. I am not perfect and can curse in front of my kids once in a while. Mostly in the car. I do try and watch what I say. One of my best friend's DH's has a big potty mouth, but does try and watch it in front of the kids. They're kids are older and my friend always tells the kids that they should never use that language. Fine... Well, I hear now from my DS who's 5 that there's a boy in class that says the F word. He also says bi^ch and other bad words. My older DS is 7 and he really doesn't know curse words besides the silly, potty ones. So, I was out to dinner with two of my girlfriends who's kids are in the same class and we said we also hear that boy teaching the kids bad words. My friend said her son came home saying the word "murderer." We brought it to the teacher's attention and she did say that other parents have said the same thing about him and it was recently addressed. I told my DS that we don't say those bad words and if you hear him say it again to ignore it and tell the teacher. Problem is my DS and my friend's DS are best friends with this kid. They sit together on the bus so I am assuming that's where they hear it most. My son knows good from bad so he's been good and I'm glad it was addressed too. We'll see what happens. Just shocked that this boy, who happens to be on the younger side too and just turned 5 in the late Fall says it. My girlfriends and I looked up the parents on FB ( ) and see that he has a younger brother and there's no older siblings. We have never seen the parents bc they've never come to any events at school or even the back to school night. I think we heard the grandmother came to the Winter concert. I know I'm addressing it the right way with DS and he gets it, but still shocked that at only 5 he's learning it now when my 7 year old still doesn't know the F word. LOL!

Lol! My son at 2 used the F word in proper context... something like "it's to f...ing heavy" I stopped cursing then. Come to think of it... the sentence was rather impressive. I worked full time in a traditionally male profession where, believe it or not, cursing is regular language. You don't hear it until it's repeated.

My son was in K and learned "bit*h* and "c*ntsucker" from another child on the bus. That phone call was mortifying to say the least. He never said those words again, and I told him to stop sitting with little Johnny on the bus. He is 18 now, and thinks "stupid" is a bad word, sooo lol. But...I will tell you, most kids with potty mouths like that DO lack parental supervision, and as the grades go on, it gets worse. So I would limit contact to be honest. Probably not a popular opinion though!

Re: Kid teaching cursing in Kindergarten
I don't have kids, so I'm no help.
On the flip side, it took me a long time to get used to my 75 year old mother in law dropping the f-bomb on a regular basis in normal conversation. No wonder DH has such a potty mouth. The worst my mom ever said was $hit - and that was far and few in between.

Re: Kid teaching cursing in Kindergarten
Between the bus and older kids at school, my son has heard plenty of bad words. He knows not to repeat them except when he quietly tells me what some other kid said. He usually doesn't even say the word. He will say what it starts with. I'm glad he doesn't repeat it, but I'm not thrilled that he has been exposed to this for several years now. My younger one, on the other hand, will probably repeat what he hears when he starts school.

Re: Kid teaching cursing in Kindergarten
The same thing happened to us when my DS began K. There was the one kid who taught the class all about guns, physical "play" fighting, playing war, bad words & who knows what else. In speaking with the mom, I understand now why the kid is ok with sharing his knowledge. Boys will be boys she says. Her lax parenting has affected my son. Luckily for me, my ds is smart enough not to repeat anything to others but I encouraged him to play with other kids.

This is what my ds does too.

Re: Kid teaching cursing in Kindergarten
I gotta say, I know it's not your intention but you and your friends sound a little judgmental about the parents. I go to events, but I am not at a lot of things. Also my son is in a 12:1 so we don't know a lot of other kids. I met a mom at a baseball clinic who was shocked she had never met me or DS before.
Back to the OP, kids do it for the shock value. My SO's son does it to get attention. And he has plenty of parental supervision.
I had one other thought, maybe the child has Tourette's? I know it's out there, but it does happen.
My DS is older now, almost 10, but all of us curse and always have and he doesn't repeat it. He knows they are bad words.

I am not judging the parents from them not showing up to things. I've missed things in the past when I was working full time and both my parents couldn't make it to some events growing up. I am just surprised from what I hear from the boy. Not only cursing a lot, but telling the other kids what murder means, fighting and guns. I know a lot of my kid's friend's parents. I just didn't know much about them and ds says it's one of his best friends including another boy whom I've gotten to know the mom well. We've gotten together for play dates and even girls nights. Judge away. Lol! Kidding there! I will have a more open mind about it though and appreciate you bringing it up bc you are right. I don't want to be judgemental. Like I said, I curse too but try to watch what I say more around the kids and don't talk about murdering others. The teacher did say other parents were concerned as well and brought it to her attention. She said it was addressed so we'll go from there.

We all do it, it's human nature, and I didn't think you were doing it in a harsh sense so I hope I didn't come across as nasty
My ex is an idiot and lets my son play inappropriate video games, so I guess that is probably what this kid is doing, but he can't deal for some reason. Who knows though. That is just a guess

Re: Kid teaching cursing in Kindergarten
Same except it was my 15mo DD saying "shit!" everytime she bumped into something
SO has a bad mouth so my 6yo has heard the F word but she yells "language!!!" and he hands her a dollar when he does it. My kids know if they ever repeat these words they will be in HUGE trouble and there will be a monetary penalty

Re: Kid teaching cursing in Kindergarten
The principal at DS' school (first grade) had individual meetings last week with each grade to address inappropriate language and cursing.
There have been major issues on the bus and DS has a kid who curses and uses other inappropriate language in class.
It's hard - we try to limit DS' internet (and we've really limited it for DS 2 as it was causing anger issues) but, some people aren't as aware as what their kids are learning on the internet, even if they are present... And it's being discussed at school (mainly on the bus).
I've also learned that to find out this information, I need to ask leading questions of my DS or get him together with one of my friend's daughters who go to the same school.
