That sucks. :( I kinda figured that was going to happen when all her daughter would say is that they are keeping her comfortable. So sad.

On another message board I read, they had a nurse from the hospital stating that Rivers actually died a day after the news broke about her procedure and that the daughter wasn't prepared to release the news to the media yet that her mother passed away. Now I guess that story was true after all.

And may her daughter find the strength to get through this difficult time. They were extremely close. Did everything together.

Honestly I am more upset about Joan Rivers passing than I was about Robin Williams. I just will always remember being a kid watching her on the Tonight Show when she filled in for Johnny Carson. A true pioneer for woman in comedy.

RIP... I was kind of waiting for this news since the other news broke and they said she was being moved...reading between the lines I figured she was not going to come out of this and maybe she was being kept on life support until the family were ready to let her go OR maybe she did pass away a few days ago and they needed some privacy which is completely understandable. I wish her family peace

It's very unlikely she died earlier than today. Jewish funerals take place w in 24 hours of the passing.
But w her being so famous, I could see them doing it w in 48 hours or more to fly everyone in.

Joan Rivers’ fans and loved ones are grieving the legendary comedienne’s death Thursday as new details emerge on how Melissa Rivers made the 81-year-old star more comfortable during her final days on earth.
“Joan wasn’t brain dead, but she was only being kept alive by machines,” a source tells RadarOnline.com exclusively. “It was only a matter of time before Joan passed away.”
In the days following the routine vocal chord surgery that went terribly wrong, Melissa moved comatose Joan to a private room at Manhattan’s Mount Sinai.
PHOTOS: Look Back At Joan Rivers’ Best Career Moments
There, a parade of family, friends and colleagues, including Cindy Adams and the president of E!, visited the hospital to offer Melissa their condolences and say their final grief-stricken goodbyes to Joan.
Adams reveals that the room was decked out in flowers, plants, bows and other décor designed by celebrity event star Preston Bailey.
Joan was also kept comfortable with a Dennis Basso mink blanket and show tunes from Oklahoma! playing on a CD player.
And though the funny lady wasn’t conscious during her final days, Adams reveals her pal was kept immaculate thanks to a team of makeup artists, hairdressers and even manicurists, who painted her nails purple and white and her toenails green.
Joan’s most faithful friends — a Havenese and a Japanese Chin — snuggled and comforted their unconscious master before her death.
“My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother,” Melissa said following her mom’s death.
“Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world.”
A funeral for Joan will be held at Temple Emanu-El in New York City on Sunday.

True but getting out under anesthesia at an older age is def more risky. So sad that she was perfectly healthy and nobody saw this coming

Joan Rivers has died at 81
I wish she would have had the routine procedure performed at mt Sinai in the first place. My dad has all of his throat cancer treatments and surgeries there. They are amazing.
There is a wing there that is like a luxury hotel with private nurses and private rooms that can hold 20 people. That's probably where she was.
I'm very sad about her passing, she's always been a favorite of mine.
So incredibly sad for Melissa and Cooper.

In her 2012 book I Hate Everyone… Starting with Me, the late Rivers even outlined her plans for her funeral.
"When I die (and yes, Melissa, that day will come; and yes, Melissa, everything's in your name,)" Joan wrote, referencing her only child, daughter Melissa Rivers. "I want my funeral to be a huge showbiz affair with lights, cameras, action."
"I want Craft services, I want paparazzi and I want publicists making a scene!" she insisted. "I want it to be Hollywood all the way. I don't want some rabbi rambling on; I want Meryl Streep crying, in five different accents. I don't want a eulogy; I want Bobby Vinton to pick up my head and sing 'Mr. Lonely.' I want to look gorgeous, better dead than I do alive. I want to be buried in a Valentino gown and I want Harry Winston to make me a toe tag. And I want a wind machine so that even in the casket my hair is blowing just like Beyonce's."
