Is it weird that we received a card addressed this way?
Or is it just weird that it's from my IL's?
Our christmas card was addressed:
Mr & Mrs Chris XXXX and daughter
I've only ever known to address a card for a family as "The XXX Family"
So for me it is weird to see this to begin with and then just weirder that my MIL wrote it out that way (why it surprises me I have no idea )

That is weird.
Odder that it comes from your MIL, who I assume knows your daughter's name.

An aunt whom I love soooo much addressed our card:
Mr & Mrs xxxxxx & Son.
I had this reaction for like 2 seconds and than I was like OK.
I actually forgot about it until I read your post just now.

Sounds like she wrote it out & added & daughter later.
I've never received a card addressed like that.

I know it sounds strange, but that is actually the proper way to address the envelope. I usually just use "The xxxx Family".

Re: Is it weird that we received a card addressed this way?
I just got my first one today!!! My DH and I were both like esp when we saw it was my aunt!!! She must have meant to write The xxxx Family and instead wrote Mr. and Mrs. and then realized she left Hannah off. But she wrote daughter instead of Hannah. Weird, but whatever.

Re: Is it weird that we received a card addressed this way?
maybe she didnt want to put dd's name on it because she is a baby... and she was afraid of strangers seeing it since there are some crazies out there?

We received one like that. It read to Mr. and Mrs. XXX and daughter. The weird thing is, we had a boy.

Yes, I think it is weird. I address mine to "The XXX Family" when it is more than Mr. & Mrs.

Mr & Mrs XXXXX and daughter is the proper way to write out an envelope? I honestly have never seen this before. I assumed "The XXX Family" was proper.
What if we have another child or two? Then what do they start to write? Mr & Mrs XXXX and their 2 daughters?

I got the same thing... but usually from elderly people who probably forgot DSs names.

Re: Is it weird that we received a card addressed this way?
do you know its actually somewhere in the book of etiquette. My sis n law works at a printing place for cards. For my wedding EVERYONE who had children was and daughter or and son or sons/daughters etc... I thought it sounded so weird but the owner told me that is the way it is...

Re: Is it weird that we received a card addressed this way?
I actually received 2 cards that were addressed this way and I was really pi$$ed. One was from my aunt and the other was from my parents close friend. It's not like they don't know my DD name. I would never ever do that. I always write The_____ Family.
Oh yeah, I also got cards that didn't even include my DD name or anything at all.
