I even told my hubby I want a handheld recorder so I can record my misery and suffering and anytime he talks about having a second kid I can just play that for him. Or if I’m stupid enough to think about having another, I can always remind myself.

PS: Can you tell I am NOT one for the 2 under 2 club?

I can't say it better myself. Having a baby is no joke! I wish people would stop glamourizing it as if it's so wonderful and every women has to go through it.

As far as I know having a baby is a battle that test a women's mental and physical strength. And delivering a baby is a bloody climax that ends with temporary amnesia.

Re: Is anyone else TERRIFIED to give birth?

I'm terrified. I'm even more terrified that all the women in my family have delivered their firsts very very quickly, like non humanly quick.....my mom didn't have time for any drugs or anything she had me in literally 2 hours, pushed like twice...so thats what scares me the most, bc supposedly it is hereditary fast deliveries so the fact that I'll be in so much pain and not enough time for drugs freaks me out royally....but the fact that it may be fast, helps ease my mind a bit...

Don't worry, compared to the contractions, the epidural will be nothing. I was so scared too but when I actual got the epi it was NOT as bad as I had imagined it would be.

I'm with Beth, I'm more scared this time around for some reason. Weird.

I always did this. When people asked if I was scared, I kept saying "i'm not really thinking about it other than knowing that a zillion women have survived it, so I'm sure I can". I had him 100% drug-free and was walking around that afternoon. I really feel like not thinking too hard about it helped me.

YES! That's the reason why I asked my doctor for a csection. She's doing it and now my fear is over. Yes the recovery afterwards will probably be miserable, but I will have my friend percoset to help me through it....lol and the bonus part is I get to keep my hips in place! Thank goodness!

Re: Is anyone else TERRIFIED to give birth?

I was terrified, but I'm one of those women who says it's not so bad. I'm not stupid, or suffering any kind of amnesia... I went through this only 5 months ago! I delivered a 9lbs+ baby - and yes, it hurt but it wasn't the worst thing I've ever felt. In fact one of the (many) reasons I didn't have an epidural was because I was afraid if the epi wore off I WOULD suddenly feel the worst pain I ever felt in my life.

Your body is made for this.. you can handle it. If you tell yourself you won't be able to, then you won't. If you tell yourself you CAN handle it, barring any unforeseen emergencies, you will.

I was terrified, I went through it in March, and I am STILL terrified of it!!!

I won't lie... in my case - it hurt like ^)*#^$)*^)$^)^#$) crazy and NO I DID NOT FORGET THE PAIN AFTER I HELD MY BABY. It was the hardest thing - mentally and physically - that I had to endure. Was it worth it? Of course it was - I have my healthy baby boy. But... was it an awful, scary, experience for me personally? Sure was. And when people ask me how my delivery was, I am upfront and honest with them. Because that's how it was - and still is - for me. That being said - I would have sold my soul and my boyfriend to get that epi sooner! Chat Icon

Its nothing, the iv they give you, hurts so much worse, I remember reading posts saying that and thinking yeah right crazy, but its true.

As for the amnesia thing, I had my son 6 weeks ago, and I even have pictures and video of me in labor, before my epidural, and I am talking to my family, and laughing. I was terrified of how much it was going to hurt, and had built it up in my head so much that when I was actually in labor, I couldnt stop laughing at myself that I was so scared for no reason. It does hurt, but its not as bad as you are probably making it out to be. If dh didnt insist that I get an epidural, I dont think I would have. I was induced had off the charts contractions, 1 minute apart, for 17 hours, about 10 hours with no pain medication at all, and ladies I promise you, it really wasnt that bad. Contractions feel like really intense menstrual cramps, nothing to be terrified of. I dont know about pushing, because I ended up with an emergency c section, which also isnt the end of the world, you dont blow out your vagina ( which was my biggest fear, I even told my ob when he started the pitocin that I was afraid of having a blow out) Chat Icon

Absolutely terrified. I can't read the parts in my pregnancy books about it yet, and I'm scared even to go to Lamaze or anything because the whole thought of it is really frightening. I can't read the birth stories on here either for the most part. I really am scared and don't know how I'm going to get through it. I have a really low threshold for pain too. Chat Icon

I know I need to prepare myself, but I'm not even remotely ready to yet.

I also refuse to look at the pages in my books!

I am terrifed. I believe I will be having a c-sec due to medical reasons, which seems less scary to me. But the whole thing is so scary...just so much unknown. I hate the unknown.

Same here. i think its because its no longer a mystery.. we know what to expect and can no longer down play it in our minds. Remember with first pregnancy you were like "how do i know when im in labor"... This time around we know!! Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone else TERRIFIED to give birth?

I'm not scared of the actual L&D part. I am petrified of the being at home alone and everything starting. I am petrified I wont know what is going on and my DH will be at a job that is a PITA and I'll be home wishing the dog knew how to drive a car. I know it's the extreme but I am scared of the unknown. I know once I get to the hospital and I am around the doctors and nurses everything will be fine. I'll be in their capable hands and they will do what is in the best interst of me and the baby. I am not scared of the pushing or the pain. I am just scared to be home alone, then calling DH to tell him get your butt home and needing to get to the hospital which is 40 minutes away.

One word:

EPIDURAL!!! Lol.

Seriously...I was scared.....but when the pain got bad, I got drugs...and then I felt nothing (They did TOO good of a job, never felt pressure).

He popped out...I got stitched (3 stitches) and I never felt a thing.

Afterwards? Yeah, pretty sore. But boy, nothing like I expected. My root canal last week was worse, I'm not joking!!!!

Re: Is anyone else TERRIFIED to give birth?

I'm with ALLLLL of you! I'm terrified of it all. My threshold for pain is on the weak side..but all we can really do is practice breathing and getting our minds in the right place.

I mean the birth has to happen right? So it doesn't help if we get ourselves so obsessed with it (as I have). Sometimes I catch myself when I go off on my "OMG..how am I gonna do this" rants..and I just have to stop and relax and know there are drugs out there and people who can help you ..and if you scream and swear at them..u can't get in trouble Chat Icon Chat Icon

But I'm still nervous as heck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Terrified

I don’t care what people say about “it wasn’t that bad” *BS*

They just have memory loss. I have heard it’s a fact that we produce a chemical that makes us forget some of the more painful parts. I mean how the hell else would be WANT to keep having children.

I am actually angry that I have to give birth, it scares me that much. I know the nurses and doctors will be very supportive “You’re doing great”..blah.. Well Screw that! I don’t care how many children you’ve seen delivered this is my first and every woman is different so NO YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT IM FEELING! No you can NOT say it’s going to be better and think I’ll accept that. Hell, my own body is against me on this one. It may not know exactly what’s doing but it’s got a pretty good idea. Me on the other hand, I feel like I’ll be hostage in my own body.

Trust me I know the kid’s worth it and all, but less not sugar coat the amount of suffering we have to go through shall we?

I even told my hubby I want a handheld recorder so I can record my misery and suffering and anytime he talks about having a second kid I can just play that for him. Or if I’m stupid enough to think about having another, I can always remind myself.

I honestly didn't suffer. Swear to god....not at all. Never cried, didn't do more than wince a few times. BUT i didn't let the pain get past intorlerable before I requested an epi.

You should really not be that terrified. Our bodies were made to go through this! And it's true...you MAY have a lot of pain and feel like you're suffering..I mean none of us truly know our own birth experience until you go through it...but really, you sound so angry!! People are telling you it may not be as bad as you think, because they've gone through it!!! Of all my friends to have had babies, I can honestly say that we all had better experiences than we thought. Only 1 friend had her baby VERY quickly and could not get an epidural. Even then, it went so fast and when the baby was out she was great. And she's gonna do it all over again...

I'm just saying.....no one can tell you to not be scared. And no one is discounting your feelings as a first time mom. But don't throw all advice out the window. You may be back here posting someday about how it was so much better and easier than you thought....

That's EXACTLY what I said....NEVER again and here I am pregnant with the second one. Pain in temporary and drugs will be your best friend.

So it must not be so bad if I want to (or anyone else for that matter) have another one.Chat Icon

My first pregnancy I wasn't terrified of giving birth, but of ending up with a c-section. Of course I ended up with one. This time I'm scared about the scheduled section, even though I went through it already I'm scared.
