I was...and now I am having a scheduled c/s. Now that I know everything is going to be scheduled, I kinda wish I would still be able to have that scary unknown feeling..sometimes lol.

Me! The more I see the pregnancy videos the more it worries me!
The pain, the tearing, the stretching... you name it!
I'm still in disbelief that I'm pregnant 'cus a part of me is afraid to reach the delivery stage!

I KNOW!! And I hate to say this bc everyone says that childbirth is the most beautiful thing...I don't. I think it's gross. I know, I know, it's my baby but I just- all that blood, and white stuff, and...Can they just knock you out like the olden days?

Let me tell you, the day my dr. told me I needed a C-section was the best day ever because all my fears and anxieties over labor finally went away

Re: Is anyone else TERRIFIED to give birth?
I cried the first time I was pregnant about the pain even before the big day. Looking back...it wasn't SO bad and there are plenty of drugs to keep you pain free!

Re: Is anyone else TERRIFIED to give birth?
Absolutely terrified. I am a nurse and have worked in L&D several years ago and assisted in all deliveries. I remember saying to myself that I am never doing that...lol
I try not to think about it, because it terrifies me.

Re: Is anyone else TERRIFIED to give birth?
Absolutely terrified. I can't read the parts in my pregnancy books about it yet, and I'm scared even to go to Lamaze or anything because the whole thought of it is really frightening. I can't read the birth stories on here either for the most part. I really am scared and don't know how I'm going to get through it. I have a really low threshold for pain too.
I know I need to prepare myself, but I'm not even remotely ready to yet.

Whether I deliver vaginally or via c-section, it ain't gonna be a picnic. In some ways i wish i was going to be knocked out the way my Mom was in the "olden days."

Re: Is anyone else TERRIFIED to give birth?
YES, I was just telling this to DH last night!!!
I try to make myself feel better by telling myself that women have been doing this for MILLIONS of years...but yeah, that never makes me feel any better!
If I go into labor at home, or wherever, my course of action is to get to the hospital and get my epidural ASAP, even if I'm not feeling anything yet!

Re: Is anyone else TERRIFIED to give birth?
As someone whos BTDT and found it so nice that she's going for twice :
L&D is nowhere near as bad as we make it out to be in our heads (usually). I had tearing, pooped on the table, pushed for a LOOOONG time (and then she had to be vacuumed extracted).
I was terrified about labor and pushing. At the time I was going through it- I swear, I was *in a zone* and barely remember any pain. The pain I DO remember was when she was being pulled out- and it was very quick. Mainly, all I remember is feeling EXHAUSTED while pushing.
Your adrenaline is pumping and you are so ready to "do this" that you have no time to deal with fear. I look back and see DD's birth as beautiful- although at the time I know that the whole thing looked like a crime scene

Re: Is anyone else TERRIFIED to give birth?
Terrified
I don’t care what people say about “it wasn’t that bad” *BS*
They just have memory loss. I have heard it’s a fact that we produce a chemical that makes us forget some of the more painful parts. I mean how the hell else would be WANT to keep having children.
I am actually angry that I have to give birth, it scares me that much. I know the nurses and doctors will be very supportive “You’re doing great”..blah.. Well Screw that! I don’t care how many children you’ve seen delivered this is my first and every woman is different so NO YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT IM FEELING! No you can NOT say it’s going to be better and think I’ll accept that. Hell, my own body is against me on this one. It may not know exactly what’s doing but it’s got a pretty good idea. Me on the other hand, I feel like I’ll be hostage in my own body.
Trust me I know the kid’s worth it and all, but less not sugar coat the amount of suffering we have to go through shall we?
I even told my hubby I want a handheld recorder so I can record my misery and suffering and anytime he talks about having a second kid I can just play that for him. Or if I’m stupid enough to think about having another, I can always remind myself.
PS: Can you tell I am NOT one for the 2 under 2 club?

Re: Is anyone else TERRIFIED to give birth?
I was so scared about delivery but my doctor was very reassuring...didn't help before hand but definitely during. Towards the end the doctors kept saying how big my son was and his head wasn't getting into place so I quickly volunteered that I would be fine with a c-section but my doctor wanted to try vaginal first. I was so scared but she made me a deal...she'd give me one more epi before I pushed so long as I promised to push.
That epi was wonderful and I really didn't feel much at all - not even the tear. And fortunately my recover was so great...I want my next delivery to vaginal as well.
It looks so much worse in my opinion than it really is...best example...my husband tells a completely different story - it was horrific for him to watch and he was sure that I was suffering...but I felt the contractions were more painful than the actual delivery.

Re: Is anyone else TERRIFIED to give birth?
I am PETRIFIED.... I am really so scared, I wish the stork would bring the baby.
I am not looking forward to pregnancy either. I hope I am pleasantly surprised when I get to the second trimester.
I am definitely into getting a c-section.. I can wrap my head around that much easier. I think it's less of the unexpected. Plus, most of my friends have ended up having an emergency c-section, and to me-- that's the worst of it. I know it was very scary for them-- not knowing what was happening.

Trust me, it's not as bad as you think it's going to be. AND b/c you're in such bad pain it's NOTHING. And the relief.............. HEAVEN! I waited WAY too long to get the epi (in my opinion) b/c I was scared of the needle. But when I got it, I was mad at myself for waiting so long. You will all be fine! I was TERRIFIED to give birth, and ended up with a c-section after 17 hours of labor. But, I survived and now don't even remember the "bad" of the day, if that makes sense.

I understand that you are scared but hundreds of thousands of women before you have had children and hundreds of thousands after you will as well. The unknown is always scary but you'll get through it just like all the women before and after you will.
I'm not looking to come down on you - it's your opinion and that's fine but don't tell me I am stupid or that what I recall is a result of memory loss.
When you hold your child in your arms...then tell me how stupid I am.

Oh, and my mom still believed that they knocked you out until I told her no, you are awake for everything. She said she was glad she wasn't the one who had to give birth then. Thanks mom.

No one is saying its not ok to be scared. The unknown is ALWAYS scary.....
I have to be honest though- your post makes me . BELIEVE me: considering I went through L&D a year ago, I remember all the feelings of trepidation BEFORE going through it- and the realization afterwards that it wasn't as bad as I had built it up to be. Yes, there was pain, some of it was pretty intense, but personally, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was. I had little pain because I had an epi and only felt TRUE pain that made me actually scream for a very brief instant. DH can attest to it- and I don't think he suffers any *memory loss*. The intense relief immediately following that pain made it not so bad. I actually NAPPED through most of my labor- so I hardly call that suffering...... Pushing was exhausting, but not painful.
I take offense (love that word) that choosing to have another is "stupid" and in fact I think that choosing to NOT have another merely because of a short period of discomfort is a bit weak. But- you know opinions: everyone's got one.
Its perfectly normal to be terrified, but don't call others experiences BS until you've been there.
