the sleep thing too - that's getting VERY old...'you don't know what tired is'. Yes, in fact, I do - so shut it.

If someone told me to get rid of my pet and take it to a shelter , I would tell them to go F themselves.

People really need to keep their mouths shut

I am with you- I don't even get why someone would tell you to get rid of cats...what is the reasoning? Is this leftover from when people thought they sucked the breath out of babies? Like a hundred years ago?

Re: Is anyone else being told to make life changes ?

Butting in as someone who HATED getting these "YOURE LIFE WILL NEVER EVER BE THE SAME AGAIN...EVER" comments.

Um duh.. I will have another human being that I will now be responsible for so that will be different, BUT...

Youre "life' will only be as different as you make it/want it to be. DH and I MAKE SURE we keep things as "normal" as possible otherwise.

I staretd taking her out as soon as I could drive and went all over the place. We take her out to eat, to hang with our friends, etc.

We also still chill and watch TV together at night...only difference if she is usually in between us on the bobby, or one of us is feeding her. We sit her on the counter with us or in the swing and eat dinner together etc.

Yes, it is harder than I thought it would be in certain areas (Im not a bigger sleep person, but the BROKEN sleep really got to me in the beginning. I can live off of 4 hours of sleep...but not when that four hours is 30 mins at a time).

DH still plays his PS3. I go to happy hour with my friends....and then we have the little one to take care of together. It is awesome.

Tell people to shove it. Some people DO change drastically after having a baby(I too have had friends "fall off the face of the earth" after babies), but I really think it is because they chose to, not necessarily becasue of the baby.

No one would DARE to tell me what to do - Chat Icon Chat Icon

And honestly, your life will only change as much as YOU change it -
Yes, you will have a new little person to take care of, of COURSE things will change - But those people who never leave the house, never go out w/o their kids, never do anything NOT parenting related, 'Can't' take a shower or put on makeup, 'Can't" get anything done blah blah .......They CHOOSE to live their life that way ........there are PLENTY of GOOD parents who maintain their OWN identity, maintain a certain amount of 'grown up' time, maintain their relationships w/ their spouses and friends and coworkers, maintain their appearance etc etc - ALL without "neglecting" their babies !! -

People are so annoying !! Chat Icon

I feel like people are butting in & telling us changes we need to make.

So far :

- you need to get rid of your cats. Take them to a shelter.

- You need to get rid of your husband's motorcycle.

- your DH can't have an XBOX anymore. He won't have time for it. Take over that room and turn it into a nursery

I've been polite so far, but don't know how long it will last.

I think it's so rude!!!

Yes, you have children and know better than us what we are about to face. But what works for your life/marriage doesn't work for everyones! Chat Icon

I agree. People need to buyy out. It's your baby and your decision. My husband has a motorcycle, a 4 wheeler a Wii and we have 3 cats and 2 dogs and we are not getting rid of any of them. Those cats and dogs are part of our family. There are so many people out there that have pets and babies at the same time. Now if the baby develops pet allergies, that is another story. There is no reason DH can't ride a motorcyle or play his Wii or XBox when he has time, yeah it may be a while but you don't have to get rid of them. We have come across that too!

Re: Is anyone else being told to make life changes ?

Honestly, you need to take it with a grain of salt. Everyone will have an opinion about everything. If you are letting it get to you now, you will go absolutely INSANE when people bring their "advice" to a whole new level once baby arrives. Yes people, and then do what you want. Too many other things in life to stress over.

I will add, though, that I did have to find a new home for my 2 cats after baby Chat Icon . It works for some people, but not for others. We had great cats that had behavioural issues after DD was home. Gave it our best shot, but in the end if we had to keep them locked in the basement it wasn't a good life for them....so we found them a nice couple to live with. I hope it works out better for you.

Re: Is anyone else being told to make life changes ?

YES! DH and I are big on going out with our friends on the weekends. Literally every weekend we either go out to the bar or in the summer, we have late BBQs with our friends.

I cant even begin to tell you how many times family has said to us "well, enjoy it now because when the baby comes you wont be doing that anymore" Chat Icon Yes, of course we wont be going out to the bars every weekend once the baby arrives -- but that doesnt mean we cant still do things and get together with our friends all the time! We'll still have our BBQs (and baby will be there) and we'll still go out and just bring him along!

I hate that people think its their job to "inform" you of what you can and cant do once you have a babyChat Icon Chat Icon

Reading this makes me mad, especially what people are saying about pets Chat Icon

Luckily I haven't had too many opinions thrown at me like that...which is good because I'd probably flip out on the person

Re: Is anyone else being told to make life changes ?

Before DS #1 was born, we heard the following:

- You'll never have time for yourselves again.
- You'll never sleep again.
- You'll never have sex again.
- You're whole life will be centered around your child/children.
- DH and I would never have time for our personal hobbies.

The list can go on and on.

Needless to say, they were wrong on all points.

Of course it's life changing and will require some adjustments. However, I think if we didn't realize that going INTO the whole parenting thing, we'd be labeling ourselves ignorant.

Now, 2 weeks away from having DS #2, our life will again be going through adjustments. Personally, I think that's part of growing as a family and as a couple. Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone else being told to make life changes ?

Just another thought for those of you afraid of the cats jumping into the crib, etc. My cats are TERRIFIED of Lily. Even when she was a teeny 7 pound baby....the second she would move or cry, they would run out of the room. So they would never ever jump into anything for fear of coming in contact with her. Re: Is anyone else being told to make life changes ?

wow, thats alot of demanding people...

cats- they are fine. i believe its dogs which are more dependant on their owners that some(not all) people have difficulty with...

XBox- my husband has xbox hooked up in the living room. nothing wrong with it. The baby will be napping at some point- dh can play then..

the motorcycle is the one thing i can see why people would be upset- Please make sure your dh wears a helmet and is extra careful when riding. Dh as an auto claims examiner has seen too many gruesome claims. Im sure these people are just looking out for dh's safety so that he can continue to be around for the baby growing up

So far, not really.

Just the "Get your sleep now because after the baby comes, you'll never sleep in late again." comment.

We get this a lot and my 92 year old grandmother tells me to open the door and kick my dog out every time she sees me. I've actually gotten up and left her house once when she said this to me because we adore our dog.

yesssss...reminds me of when you are wedding planning, all of a sudden EVERYONE is an expert and feels justified in adding their 2 cents....gets even better after you have the baby. I had a random lady in BJ's telling me I should wear gloves when handling the baby..........

yes same here-all those things and more like a lot of the ladies have said. it's ridiculous! but
the ONLY thing i did sadly find to be true was the horrific sleep deprivation thing. that unfortunately was true and traumatic for me. however, this was just like the first 4 months or so.
you WILL lose some of your freedom-but not all of it.

i heard the cat one all the time.

Right now my husband is playing his xbox with 2 cats chilling on our bed. :)

no life changes here

We got a crib tent for the cats, but now that DD is 9 months old we took the crib tent off (we took it off about 1 month ago). DD is already large enough to ward of any kitty intruders plus, they are more afraid of her, she tries to eat them because they are furry and she likes furry things, they run off. But the crib tent was great in the beggening, and it is a great thing for a child to have an animal
