Intro and HSG questions
Hi ladies. This is my first post on this board. I'm not yet under the care of an RE, but am starting my IF journey with my first round of tests. I had a very early m/c last June, and have not been able to conceive since.
After meeting with my ob-gyn last week, she gave me a prescription for a HSG, among other things. The office referred me to Zwanger-Pesiri, but it turns out that they no longer do HSGs. The office then gave me a number for Nassau Radiology, but according to their website and telephone menu options, they don't do them either. The office also mentioned Sitron & Hammil, but HSG is not a listed procedure on their website.
So, where did you have your HSG done? Was it through your RE? I am not yet under the care of an RE, as my ob-gyn wanted to do bloodwork, an internal sono, HSG, and SA first to see what's going on.
Also, my doctor wanted me to go for the HSG on CD 5-6. Does anyone know the reason for this? I think that I will be away at that time (although it's hard to predict), so I put a call in to her to see if I should go a different time or wait for the next cycle.
ETA: I just found the HSG under "general radiology" on the Sitron-Hammil website.

Re: Intro and HSG questions
Hello, and welcome! I had my HSG done at Zilkha Radiology in West Islip. I LOVED them!
You need to go early in your cycle so they can be sure you haven't O'ed yet and are not PG. Zilkha also confirmed with me that I hadn't BDed yet that cycle. Also, Sitron required a blood test first to confirm you're not PG, so if you are going to use them make sure you get a script from your doc for the bloodwork and get that scheduled so Sitron's office has the results before your HSG. It would have to be done in the same cycle. HTH!! Good luck!

Re: Intro and HSG questions
First off, welcome, hope your stay here is SUPER short.
I had mine at North Shore. It was relatively quick and painless, I took 2 advil before hand and was fine. I drove myself home and had no spotting. Good luck to you!

Re: Intro and HSG questions
Hi, i had my HSG done at Nassau Radiology in Garden City. They were great there. I don't remember the reason why, i think it has something to do with the fact that you just got over our period for going on CD 5-6. I also had to have a blood test done no more than 3 days before my HSG and the results had to be faxed over to NRAD ASAP. This was so they can make sure you are not pregnant before doing the test. THe test itself was not bad. I just got some mild cramping and a little spotting afterwards. I till some advil before the test which helped alot. Also, right after the HSG, i spoke with the Dr. who did it and he pretty much told me the results before sending it to my Dr. Good luck!

Re: Intro and HSG questions
I had two HSG's both done at Medical Arts Radiology (Patchogue and Bay Shore). I am pretty sure they have many other offices.
Good Luck!

Welcome! Hopefully your stay here will be short!
I did have my HSG at Zwanger-Pesiri in Plainview (in October 09), but my Dr., Dr. Palter (Gold Coast IVF in Syosset) performed the test. He only does it there on Thursdays between 3 & 5pm. He insists on performing all his tests himself.

Re: Intro and HSG questions
Hey you.. I went to NRAD in garden city/hempstead back in October - yes, you have to have bloodwork done within 3 days before the test to make sure you're not PG - they won't do it otherwise. I think they schedule it that early in your cycle to ensure you're not O'ing or PG because the dye they inject could probably cause problems to any eggs.
I have to say, i thought the HSG hurt big time. But, i know not everyone has that same experience. It was really really uncomfortable and painful for me (and usually i'm fine with most medical procedures). From what i remember, they insert a small catheter (which doesn't hurt), which injects this dye into your ovaries and they can then take a picture of your tubes/ovaries (like an xray). For some reason, the dye in there caused this incredible sensation of pressure and pain in me, but again, it doesn't happen to everyone. It's over in just a few minutes, so it's really not thaaat horrible even if it does hurt . And the dr showed me the results right there in his office after.
I definitely recommend taking Advil/Motrin beforehand. The recovery isn't bad at all.. they'll give you a pad and you'll be fine to carry on your day after as normal.
good luck and you'll be fine!
