HSG Questions
I am scheduled for an HSG on Friday morning. I have talked to a few friends that have had it done and they have given me mixed responses...some said it was extrememly painful while others said it wasn't a big deal. I would appreciate information on your experiences. Also, did you take any pain relievers prior to the test? I was thinking of taking 2 advils, but wasn't sure if that would jade the results. any other information pertaining to this procedure would be greatly appreciated as I am very nervous about it! Thanks!!!

Re: HSG Questions
Ok my experience with the HSG was this: everything was going fine. He went to insert the catheter and my uterus and the way I was laying was at a weird angle so he couldn't get it as high as he needed. So i basically had to pull my knees toward my chest and spread em!!lol embarassing but it helped. It was NOT comfortable. I felt cramping right away but the whole thing was over in like 10 mins. I cramped a few hours later as well but i took motrin and it went away
Most of the people I asked said they had no problems and were in and out.

Re: HSG Questions
i was nervous but was in & out, the actual procedure was like two minutes. I had slight cramping but nothing major. I took 2 advil before it and my dr advised me to.
**oh if you can bring your own pad with you, the ones they supply are huge it felt like i was wearing a diaper walking out of there.

Re: HSG Questions
I agree with the pp. I had my HSG last week and it was really no big deal. Not really any more invasive or uncomfortable than a GYN exam. The whole thing takes about 10 minutes-if even. They insert a speculum to hold you open and then insert a thin catheter(?). They take the speculum out and let the dye go in. I did feel some minor cramping but it wasn't anything much. I popped 2 Alleve and they were gone. It is probably one of the easier things we woman have to endure Good luck!
