HSG / Hysteropingogram Questions
1. Are these two tests one in the same?
2. If you had one done, did you have to take antibiotics beforehand? I read online that some women are told to, but me doc didn't prescribe one.
3. What can I expect? My doc said to take tylenol before I go because it's a very crampy test. I read somewhere that I should bring a pad with me because some of the dye can leak out and you bleed after. Is that true? If I have to have it done during the week, can I go to work after?

Re: HSG / Hysteropingogram Questions
Yes it is the same. I was advised to take a tylenol or Alleve 1 hour before so that if you do have cramping it will already be kicked in. I was given a pad where I had it done and if I knew I would have brought my own. (It was huge!) You will be a bit uncomfortable during the test. I think this varies by person to person. I had a bit of leaking, some cramping and some staining. I took the day off cause I was nervous but I think you could go to work after. hope that helps

I didn't have any cramping or discomfort. The worst part for me was the doctor getting the tubes in place. I think the more blocked you are the more crampy you may be. They gave me a pad after, but you might want to bring your own b/c it was the size of a boat!!

Re: HSG / Hysteropingogram Questions
Yes they are the same test. I was not prescribed any antibiotics but i did take advil beforehand.
I just had mine done on Friday and was VERY nervous. But it really was not that bad. I felt cramping like i had AF during the test and for a little ehilw afterwards. The worst part for me was when they used that thinkg to open you up. But the took it right out after the cathader was in and i was fine. You should bring a pad. The place i went to provided one but as a pp said, it was huge. There was some spotting afterwards. After the HSG was done, they provided me with baby wipes and i was able to go in the bathroom and clean up. The whole procedure took about 5 minutes but I was told by the nurse that some of the Drs. do take longer. I took off of work for the day because i didn't know what to expect and i got myself all worked up. But it wasn't as bad as i expected AT all.

Re: HSG / Hysteropingogram Questions
Yup, they are the same test. I would absolutely take Advil before the test...I think it helped me. The place I had it done at had a pad there for me, but it woul dbe a good idea to bring one, just in case. You do leak a little fluid afterwards. For me, it was not terribly painful...just uncomfortable and definitely less than pleasant. I know some people have more pain, but it is over pretty quickly.
I had some additional cramping for the rest of the evening. So, I would suggest planning to just hang out with your feet up and have DH wait on you
The HSG made a huge difference in my TTC path. I ended up finding polyps that were blocking my fallopian tubes. After my RE removed them, it took me only 2 Femara (like Clomid) cycles to get pg.
Good luck!

Thanks for the responses ladies! I'm a little nervous with all the testing I have to go through next month, but this definitely helps me feel better.

Re: HSG / Hysteropingogram Questions
Just a little sidenote...the month I had my HSG I conceived DS. I hope you have the same experience.
Also, I took an advil prior to the procedure and it did not hurt at all. I think I was expecting so much more and it was such a relief to be nothing. I actually went into work afterwards. Good luck!!!
