Interior door measurements
We want to replace the interior doors with 6 panel doors since they're really old. The problem is that I measured the doors and they measure at 29 3/4" wide but they sell 30" doors? Are we even able to replace them? I hope so.... does anyone know? Thanks!

Re: Interior door measurements
are you just measuring the door, or the door + frame (not surrounding moulding)?
it's really hard to just pop the pins out and replace a door w/o ripping out and replacing the frame. It almost certainly won't hang plumb, and will rub against some edges.... if it closes at all
When measuring the frame, the best way to do it is to pop the moulding off and measure the frame dimensions... and do it in a couple places, since they tend to settle with the home, and likely aren't plumb. It's easier to work with a frame a 1/4 inch smaller than the opening (just add shims), than a 1/4 inch larger.... so that can be your guide for what size you need...
good luck!

Re: Interior door measurements
You need to measure the inside of the jamb after you take the molding off, I guarentee the new doors will fit. if you goto Home Depo or Lowes and measure the 30 inch door with the hinge side facing you Jamb to Jamb.
People think you just install the door, that is 3 times as hard as installing the prehung door. Your home has settled and moved or 50 + Years ( at least mine did) remove the pins from the door, remove the door, tear off the molding and tear out the jamb. Install your new prehung door and install new molding......... worst part is that the molding that you now have to replace is as expensive as the blank door you were going to buy.
sorry for the bad news
Like it says above.... posted as I was typing ......

Re: Interior door measurements
WE replaced every interior door in our house with 6-panel pine doors that we stained and polyurethaned. 90% of the door jambs in our house are metal and we did not have the time or patience to install pre-hung doors. We just bought the doors, DH measured twice, cut once and had to fit each door. He had to shave the tops and sides of some, but they all came out so nice.
