my baby boy was born february 8, 2013, he was 8.13 lbs.
today is his first well visit and his weight is 12.40 lbs.
the pedia said i am giving him too much milk.
hes always hungry and i feed him every 1 1/2 hour or 2-3 oz.
how much did your baby gain after a month?
how many times did you feed him/her in a day.

I am not sure of weight gain.. I would have to check my book.
I can say that youshould not give more then 32 oz of milk.My Twin A was always sucking bottle dry so we started having to put baby rice in bottle at 2 months. Monitor the milk intake & if you are coming close to 32oz...ask about doing this

Dd is only 2 weeks but I think I was told that they should gain an ounce per day for the first few weeks

my DD was 8lbs 14 oz at birth and at her 3 month check she was 12lbs 12 oz. for her age and height she was in the 75% for weight. So your LO might be eating too much.

DS was born at 7.14 lbs but left the hospital at 7.5 lbs. At his 1 month well visit, he was 9.6 lbs.

IMO, 3+ lbs is a big weight gain in a month, but I wouldn't worry unless it continues next month as well. Just to give you some perspective, DS gained 1.5 lbs in his first month and the ped told me I've overfeeding him as well. (I just posted about this, actually).

At 5w, I feed him about 4.5-5.5 ounces ever 2.5-3 hours, which is about what you're feeding DC as well.

its strange to me how every one feeds newborns at different times... i feel like im the only person who stayed on the schedule the hospital had her on... every 4 hrs shes up to 4oz per feeding now...

2/16 she was 6lbs 2oz
2/18 leaving the hospital she was 6lbs
2/20 first drs appt she was 6lbs
3/1 2 week appt she was 6lbs 11oz

My dr said 1 to 2 lbs a month is average

ITA my ped said its not possible to over feed him. I think everything will balance itself out weight wise.

I think my girls gained about 2 lb btwn their weight check and their first well visit about 6 weeks later. They leveled off a bit after that.

I do think that's a large gain, roughly 1 lb per week when I think the average is 1/2 per week te first few months.

DD was born 1/21 and weighed 7.6 lb. at 1 month, she was 8.11 as at 6 weeks, 9.10lb.

My son was born at 8.7lb and I just checked, he was 12.10lb at 2 months (8 weeks).

ETA - I feed DD 4oz every 3-4 hours at 6 weeks. She takes maybe 20-26oz per day.

DS is a peanut and EBF but he was born 6.10, at one month was 8.15.

4lbs is like double of what they should be gaining at that point. I think your feedings should be stretched to every 2-3 hours... And aim for like 25-30 oz a day... Since he was born a big boy, the 30oz prob seems more reasonable

DS was born 8lb 12oz ... i didn't have an appointment at one month, but at 6 weeks, he was 13lb 6oz. The pediatrician has always been really happy with DS's weight gain and actually told us to keep it up.

I don't remember how much he was eating, but we fed him every 3 hours (and still do).

ETA: he's been in the 95th percentile for weight/height since birth, pretty much.

My DD has always been a big eater, and is in the 95% for height/weight, yet at her 1 month checkup she had gained 2 lbs. I never followed the 32 oz rule, but that being said I do think feeding every 1.5 hours is excessive. I've always fed every 3-4 hours, at that age maybe 4 oz at a time? HTH!

I would try distracting DC a little bit to spread out the feedings. Sometimes DD needed a bottle 1.5-2 hours but not every day. it makes a big difference if you a FF or BF too. FF babies can be overfed where BF babies are less likely. The first few months DD would gain 2lbs a month and lately she's averaging about 1lb a month.

At DD first well visit she gained between 1-1/2 to 2 pounds. I dont remember exactly. At 5 weeks she is drinking 4oz every 2-3 hours. At night her stretches are getting longer to about every 4 hours.

apple - it occurred to me that your LO is probably tired, not always hungry. If you're feeding every 1.5 hours (from start time to start time) then you're not leaving any time to nap. Try putting the baby down after each (or most) feedings to get a nap in.

Thanks for the replies... He is formula feeding. He is always crying and they said if put you finger on his lips and open his mouth and follow your finger the baby is hungry.
Last night for the first time he slept 4 hours straight, he takes 90ml every feeding every two hours. Im trying to give him a paci but he doesnt like it,
I tried to keep him sleep but he is usually cries every hour.

And also he doesnt stip crying even if i hold him.. He will just stop if i give him milk.

My Ped said that you can overfeed FF babies, and for gastrointestinal and GERD reasons, you should not overfeed.
We fed our girls every 3 hours at first, 2oz. I stretched it to 4 hours once they began drinking 4 oz, logically as they ate a bit more at a feeding, they would be able to go longer between feedings. The first month they gained a pound or so, the second month 2lbs and the third month 1.5
