i am listening to mike and the mad dog on WFAN right now
and mike francesa made an extremely moving speech that I am in full support of.
People are throwing this guy under the bus. Yes, he made a dumb comment and deserves to be suspended. But, his legacy of helping kids should not be determined because of this.

O & A were saying the exact thing this morning & were even broadcasting the telephone number to the radiothon today.
I am glad that some members of the media are taking a stand about this.

those 2 guys hold alot of clout
he bascially said that what MSNBC did, yanking him the day before the radiothon, was a cowardly act which hurt the kids.
And he said that all these political guys, which made their careers on his show, are cowards for not supporting him

And he said that all these political guys, which made their careers on his show, are cowards for not supporting him OH I know it. O & A said the same this morning, but I feel like people are afraid to align themselves with O&A because of past history.
I think it was COMPLETELY cowardly of MSNBC to do this & if they had ANY b a l l s at all they'd make a large donation to the foundation to make up for the viewers that will not see the fundraiser.
What p!sses me off the most is that it was not only the advertisers, but Imus's own colleagues at MSNBC, who in their eminent high-and-mighty attitude basically gave corporate at MSNBC a "him or us" ultimatum. Real nice, huh?

I am very happy to see MSNBC take him off the air. I am also happy that companies with headquarters in Jersey are withdrawing their commercials and showing support for Rutgers.
Howard Stern says nasty things BUT now that he is on Sirius he can say and do whatever he wants. People pay to listen to him be a jerk. You cannot say "nappy headed ho" on am/fm radio. You should not be allowed to say it anywhere but you can say it on Sattelite radio.
That is the difference between Howard and Imus.
The difference between Howard and Imus, as a previous poster stated is that Howard does a comedy show. Imus does not.
Imus talks about his opinion - and his opinion is racist. Howard Stern speaks and produces segments to make people laugh, not give his opinion on specific topics. (Now, if you find that type of humor funny, is another debate totally.)
Howard is an 'equal opportunity offender'. He makes fun of caucasions as quickly and as often that he makes fun of other races.
My husband pays money to hear Howard be a moron and the FCC cannot regulate him. If Imus was a racist and on Sattelite radio, then no one could say a thing about it.

The problem is as much as it is wrong & unproductive to society to be a racist, it is not illegal...... no matter who is comes form & is directed toward.
And I think the FCC is given way to much power, but that's another thread too......

I agree with you that the FCC has too much power. If we did not have a governing organization monitoring tv and radio then there would be more sexists and racists able to voice their opinions.

Re: Imus dropped!
What bothers me the most about this whole thing is this:
1. It's not illegal to be racist. It's not a good thing, but in a supposedly "free" country, we're supposed to be able to believe what we want. And although Imus' comments were unquestionably rude and ignorant, I'm not convinced that they're necessarily "racist." They were definitely sexist though.
2. It's not illegal to be offended. The first amendment does not protect ANYONE from being offended by what someone else says. Lord knows every time Al Sharpton speaks I'm offended. Does he even have a job from which I can insist he be fired????

The right to bare arms is not illegal either. The WalMart sells guns but not Snoop Dog.
As for Al Sharpton, I don't think you can fire a Reverend....if he even is a real one.

Snoop Dog can have as many guns as he wants so long as he gets a license and they're not semi-automatic. And if he wants to sell them I'm sure WalMart is hiring.
