I'm worried about DS's poop (GRAPHIC IMAGE WARNING)

So Babycenter just sent this email about how babies poop should look. It says that a baby on solids should poop like this:

External Image

but ever since DS started solids at 5.5 months his poop has looked more like this:

External Image

This is their pic of a constipated baby. I didn't think DS (8 months) was constipated because he never strains when going and the poop itself isn't hard. It's just very formed. He also goes pretty often, at least once a day. There was a poop a couple of weeks ago that I definitely thought WAS constipation, it was more crumbly and looked like rabbit poop. Is my DS truly constipated just because his poop is formed? I try to get him to take in more fluids but it has been a battle to BF him more often (due to distractibility and teething) and he doesn't really like water much.

Does your infants poop look like the first pic? TIA, I know this is a pretty graphic post

Wow - I am impressed at your DC's poop!!! I would talk to your ped - it looks pretty well formed to me - and as long as there is no strain with pushing, its probably ok!!!!

ETA - if I pay you 50 bucks, could you PLEASE make it your avatar pic?Chat Icon

Re: I'm worried about DS's poop (GRAPHIC IMAGE WARNING)

DS became a solid, constipated mess when he began solids. Does he poop everyday?

Re: I'm worried about DS's poop (GRAPHIC IMAGE WARNING)

my son has had the same poop as your son ~ are you giving him a lot of bananas? Are you mixing bananas and rice?

If he is not straining I would probably not be too upset ~ if you are super worried maybe call your ped.

DS poop is like yours. try and give him a little more juice/ water. I give lots of it, and his poops are still kind of hard. He never has that other poop tho that looks too loose to me!

That isn't DS's poop, that was from Babycenter's email. Thank you though, I am having a mini freakout right now!

DD's matches the first one and she's BF and eating solids. I'd ask your ped what to do since it matches the second one...

He usually poops more than once a day.

I wouldn't be too concerned. You can always throw some prunes into the mix to help keep it going.

Don't freak out if he is going that often. DS didn't go for a week around 6 1/2 months. That's when the doctors got concerned. Chat Icon

I wouldn't freak out too much either, but I am not a huge worrier....dd has had poops that look like both....if you want, try to give a little more liquid but otherwise some foods make them harder (my dd loves bananas and eats them daily, but they can make a harder version!)

Re: I'm worried about DS's poop (GRAPHIC IMAGE WARNING)

My DS pooped like the 2nd pic when he started solids (4 months) and it stayed that way until he turn 1 and started on milk. My PED said that if he isn't straining or in pain to get it out then don't worry about it. If he was constipated it would hurt. DS used to make a solid poop 5x the size of the one you posted and DH & I were alwaysChat Icon as to how it didn't hurt pushing it out.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I'm worried about DS's poop (GRAPHIC IMAGE WARNING)

which one is your DS's poop? I am confused after reading some of the replies.
My DS poop looked like the loose one and still does. He had maybe 2-3 of those hard nuggets since he's been born and he is almost 2.

BTW - DH looked over and was like "Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon What the heck website are you on?" Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Not that I'm complaining, but I can't remember the last time I used more than one wipe to clean up a #2. Chat Icon It (the poop Chat Icon ) rolls around in his diaper when I take it off. The other day, it rolled out and under his dresser. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

So funny bc I was just saying to DH tonight that DS goes like an adult! My DS poops the exact same way as picture 2 also...Sometimes 3 times a day! It happened when we started him on more solids! He drinks what he is suppose to drink in terms of oz & also some extra water

DD's poop looks like number 1 and has always. I thought it was supposed to look more like number 2, but I guess not. Call the pediatrician to reassure yourself, but I am sure it will be ok.

DS only had the second pic once. Both DH & I Chat Icon. 10 mins later DS pooped like the first pic, but 2x the amt...

Is E still hesitant on BFing? I remember you said once you started solids he wasn't as receptive to it.

He is still not BFing as much as I would like. He nurses very well in the AM, but that is after going the whole night without. His midday feedings are usually pretty short and I am still concerned that he is not getting enough BM. I have tried nursing him more frequently but it's a battle and he just bites me, so we only nurse 4X a day. He doesn't want the bottle either!

Mich, Will's poop was looking like the 2nd one for days. It would literally roll out of the diaper when i opened it.
I laid off on the bananas and apples. I read that pears were good for constipation so i give him pear everyday. And he just started prunes so now i think i might have the opposite soon. LOL

Re: I'm worried about DS's poop (GRAPHIC IMAGE WARNING)

I think it may depend on the BM/Solid foods ratio, DS only gets one "meal" a day right now so his poop looks like no.1. I think if he is not straining or in any discomfort, its fine! I would call the ped for reassurance if you're still worried.Chat Icon
