I'm still here - now in 2WW again.(LONG)
Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been posting too often this month. I decided to lay low as last month's disappointment took its toll on my emotions and really gave me a heavy dose of reality. Despite all of the things that we have done to increase our chances of conception, it is still a scientific cr ap shoot based on multiple physiological and biological factors and I am dealing with that.
DH and I just finished our second cycle of artificial insemination and now we are in the dreaded 2 week wait. It su cks. If this month doesn't take (which would be our last chance at a 2007 tax write-off), then we do it one more time. If after that, we aren't successful, then we go to a fertility center and will more than likely do a traditional IUI or whatever they suggest is best for us.
Right now, neither one of us have been diagnosed with any fertility issues. My sonogram showed that my ovaries are in good shape and that I ovulate. 3 sets of blood work have also shown that I ovulate - my progesterone levels are where they need to be when they need to be. DH's sperm count is 3 times what they consider to be normal (he boasts about this) so our issue really is TIMING.
I cant count on my cycle to be the same amount of days each month. It varies from 28-30 days. I ovulated on Day 14 this cycle and day 16 last cycle. Fortunately, this month's insemination was earlier than last month's ONLY because I had to coordinate with the days the doctor was in the office. Even then, the second time, we saw one of the other doctors in the practice. This was a good thing because my doctor no longer delivers babies and we feel we really should acquaint ourselves with the physicians in the practice who do. He was a very gentle and sweet man. We both felt very confident in his competence and should he deliver our first born child, we know we will be in good hands.
This whole thing weighs heavily on my mind, as a woman my age has a 10 percent chance at conception each cycle - the doctors never let me forget that because they don't want my hopes to get up too high - they are right- I understand and appreciate honesty. I need to have all the facts. Information is key to me not losing it entirely.
Last month, I nearly fell apart when the AI didn't work. So I decided to create diversions. I joined a gym and I plan on getting my body into better shape so I can get the weight off after I deliver some day. I will be working with a personal trainer now and throughout a pregnancy when it happens. I feel more at peace this cycle and I think that will help! I highly recommend a physical work out to keep your mind off of TTC. It clears your head and helps you focus.
So that is basically it.To those of you who sent FMs, I thank you. I try to stay hopeful and realistic. It isnt easy.
to all!!!

hang in there! It will work out. If I was you i would ask for CD 3 bloodwork as well as ultrasound to monitor your cycle. Just because your progesterone goes up does not mean that you ovulated. This can really only be confirmed with bloodwork(including LH and estradiol) and ultrasound. progesterone fluctuates a lot. Obviously I am not a Dr but the one thing I have realized is that if I do not do my own research and get proactive that I do not get the care that I deserve or NEED To get and stay pregnant. Good luck

The next time I go in, I will ask them about that. A friend of mine also said I should ask about an HSG. I think they are trying to keep things as simple as possible. For someone who is as high strung as I tend to be, the fewer diagnostics in the beginning, the better.
I went for my inseminations on Tuesday(Day 14) and Thursday (Day 16). On Thursday, they drew blood to determine if I ovulated because I had a THIRD appointment for AI on Monday (day 20). Since the OPK showed up positive on Tuesday night, it made sense. I spoke to the nurse yesterday who said that the bloodwork said that I DID in fact ovulate and we both agreed that coming in on Day 20 would be a futile attempt. I have blood work scheduled for day 25 as I did the last time.
ETA: THANKS!

Lots of to you.
I think that 3 shots at artificial insemination is the perfect number. You already know that you have a lot of fertility factors in your favor. It really could be just a matter of time. If you do go to an RE, there will be more tests and they will try to pinpoint something.

Nah, that doesnt bother me too much really at this point. I think he is just covering himself. Not everything fits into a nice little equation. It simply isnt as simple as "BDing every other day from day 10 and BINGO. There are odds. A woman is born with a certain amout of eggs and that decreases as she gets older. Simple science.
(Then again, I always knew I stood a better chance of getting PG than Antonella Barba did at being the next American Idol. I'm doing ok dontcha think?)

DH would love that. When we were at the doctors on Thursday, he sang the theme to "The Jeffersons" while we were waiting on the table.
"We'll be movin' on up...."

Re: I'm still here - now in 2WW again.(LONG)
for a BFP for you!!!
I agree with asking for a CD3 test and the test that checks your luteal phase (sorry, I cannot remember the name of it - I think it's done CD21).
But I hope you don't need to look any further and get your BFP!!

Re: I'm still here - now in 2WW again.(LONG)
I will ask. I have had bloods drawn a few times at different times in my cycle so maybe it is possible that the test was already run. I am due to go back on day 25 for bloods so I will ask then. I am not sure what a cd3 test is.

Well, in that case, you can buy us a 50 inch Panasonic Plasma. I know that would take DH's mind off of things for a while!!!
Seriously, right now its just a waiting game. I suppose my lack of patience is just getting the best of me. I have a very hard time delaying gratification.
Though I am sitting here right now with cramps across my abdomen. My luck, it is probably gas
