Re: If your child was watched PT by your mom...(facebook related)

Wow, I was going to post today how my MIL complains that we only see her once a week but I am so grateful for my mom and Mil, they are both as in love with DD as we are.

I would be very very hurt.
Also, if my DH saw that she would be enjoying many lonely bagels from now on!

I would be SO hurt.

My mom watches DS for me everyday, I told her I was going to put him in daycare twice a week to give her a break and she agreed it was good for both of them but she is still so upset that she wont see him everyday. She doesn't look at it like its a burden

Re: If your child was watched PT by your mom...(facebook related)

Ouch!!! You can think that but don't say it.

eta - In addition, I don't think it's fair to assume she doesn't love her DC just b/c she doesn't want to be a babysitter. Our parents have lives too and many of our parents are older and just may not have the stamina to watch a grandchild so frequently.

Just b/c they are grandparents doesn't mean their lives are just meant for watching grandchildren. I know too many people that assume their parents are not entitled to their own lives and that their life should revolve around being a babysitter. (NOTE - I am not implying this person does that, just pointing out another side of the grandparent watching GC while the parents are at work.)

People need to grow up with the Facebook shyt.
Really- how old is this woman?
She needs to post every thought in her head on FB?
Grow up.
You don't have to put every thought that crosses your mind on Facebook- especially hurtful things like that.

ITA, this facebook crap sickens me

Nope. She isn't joking around.

I can say that I know she loves her grandkids. She writes tons of adoring things about them..

but my cousin has told me its no secret that she feels burdened at her age to have to play "mom" part time to her grandkid..

So, the words were meant. I"m sure she is LOVING her time off and doing her own thing....which is FINE but don't post it for the world especially her DAUGHTER to see.

I think its a disgrace.

I agree with you!! Definitely.

I couldn't have my mom watch my kids because i know how she needs her own time now after raising 6 of us. But it was so part time, and she offered to do it you know?

My cousin felt bad enough to have to work all these hours...it just stinks

BUT i know she will happy in PT daycare..she is a very social little girl and her grandma supposedly never ever left the house...she sat by herself and played all day. So this will be great for her.

honestly, to me, it's just facebook - it wouldn't bother me. watching a little one can be hard and some days i am happy to get a break and a coffee. i honestly wouldn't think much of it.

I would be glad I made the right decision for my child. Sounds like Grandma was burnt out & ready to go back to being grandma.

And yes, I'd be annoyed she posted it on FB & probably couldn't resist the urge to post "I'm sure you're both happier now."

I agree that she shouldn't post it on FB like that - HOWEVER, I don't agree that it's a 'disgrace' that this woman who has already raised her own children doesn't WANT to 'play mom' to her Grandchildren -
Like you said, she loves and adores her grandchildren - but I don't think it means she loves them OR her daughter any less b/c she doesn't want the work of being responsible for them ALL day -

Sorry, it's one thing for Grandma to babysit here and there, it's entirely another thing to be with kids ALL day - it IS somewhat of a 'burden' EVEN if you enjoy it - it's A LOT of work !!
My parents watch my son 2x a week for us - from 7AM - 6PM and at the end of the day they are exhausted.
I would never EVER be mad @ my parents if they came to me and said it was just 'too much' and I had to put Sean in daycare FT ........they are doing me a HUGE favor (which, yes, they offered to do) but it's still a HUGE favor - KWIM?

ITA - my mom told me I don't want to babysit anyone's children for more then a day. I raised you, your my child but I am not raising your child. Doesn't mean I don't love my grandkids or future grandkids just means I respect myself enough to say I need my own life. I just don't think it was wise to post on FB since many people can't stomach a joke when it comes to their child (which I can understand.)

The comment wouldn't bother me at all if MY mom said it TO ME-- my mom and I are always joking around and being sarcastic with each other. And trust me, my mom has never claimed to be Mary Poppins, kwim? She and my dad love to watch the kids for a few hours here and there but would never want to be tied to a 2x/week commitment like that.

But I would hate it if she posted it on FB, because so many people (just like on this thread!) would gasp and be shocked that any woman wouldn't want to drop everything and be tied down with a kid 2x a week. I feel people would take it the wrong way and look down on my mom for saying it.
