If you have your carpets cleaned and have kids
How long do you keep them out of the house/room for?
I contacted Friendly chem dry today since so many of you have recommended them. I'm not worried about the area rugs in the living room or dining room since they don't go in their much, but I am worried about the carpets in their room. Should I send them to my parents for the night or weekend?

I had them come early morning and they slept in their rooms that night. I opened the windows all day and closed their doors to their rooms so everything was dry but nightfall. Chem-Dry is all natural, that's the reason I used them.

True but if anyone is worried about the risk of Kawasaki disease, it supposedly has nothing to do with chemicals used or not. It supposedly may be a reaction to the release of mold spores in the steam so chemicals or not, the carpets are being heavy duty steam cleaned.
So this for me, is aside from the smell of toxic chemicals.

I think the Travoltas scared everyone about cleaning their carpets years ago. Kawasaki was popular in the 70's in Japan where families don't even have carpeting. Believe me as a mom if I felt like I was risking my kids health I would never do something. Just my $.02. You have do you what you are comfortable with.

My concern was Kawasaki virus but if I keep them out of the house for the night I think it will be fine. It can't be any worse then what is in the carpets
Chem dry uses seltzer to clean. No chemicals. The guy said I could actually drink it if i wanted.

They also offer tile and grout cleaning. Have you ever done this with chem dry?

Re: If you have your carpets cleaned and have kids
DH used to work for ChemDry. He said they do not NEED to be out of the house at all. He used to do our carpets all the time and we never left. They do take a little while to dry(about 2-3 hours he says).

Does he know anything about the tile and grout cleaning they do? What kind of chemical they use?
