Re: IF insurance poll

Poop...I hit the wrong button...kinda...my insurance covers everything...and there is no co-pay. However, there is a lifetime max of $50,000. On top of that because my RE must have some deal worked out with NYS, I am only being charged $6,500 for IVF and all the other monitoring seems to be coming out of regular medical. TY TY TY DH FOR YOUR WONDERFUL INSURANCE. When I started this whole IF journey, I had Oxford which would have only given me $10K maxChat Icon

Someone should write to Obama and tell him that insurance companies need to get with the IF programChat Icon

Re: IF insurance poll

Mine covers "unlimited" basic infertility and up to $10,000 per lifetime for advanced IF.

Basic = everything but IVF

Re: IF insurance poll

Mine covers most diagnostic testing, all bloodwork and office visits. But when it comes to the big bucks (medicine & procedures) it covers nothing.

Re: IF insurance poll

DH & I had a $50K lifetime benefit each for IVF. Everything else - diagnostic, surgery, SA, IUI, etc. was covered under medical. We were very lucky to have his insurance.

Re: IF insurance poll

My insurance covers the entire costs for all basic and comprehensive IF treatments, e.g. diagnostic, meds, and IUIs.

I have a $10,000 lifetime max for advanced IF treatments, which include IVF. However, meds are not included in that cap.

Re: IF insurance poll

$15k for meds lifetime and $15K for infertility lifetime.

I thought that I would use up my IVF benefit before the meds but I'm seeing that it's not the case.

I will probably be out of pocket for some meds before I am OOP for IVF.

Also, blood work and sonos go to my regular medical so only the ER, ET, ICSI and anything like PGD or assisted hatching go to the IF benefit. I figure about $8500 or so per cycle will go toward that benefit considering each cycle on average at Cornell could be about $12-13K.

I wish it was higher. My cousin had 4 cycles complete paid for with her firm. It's not the insurance company that sets the limits it's the firm. My company dictates what the insurance company will cover.

I know I can dream, but hoping the IUI worked even though I know it's a small chance.

I said other b/c:

--ALL diagnostics are covered

--While doing IUI's: ALL meds, monitoring, b/w and IUI are covered (until 44)

Here's where it gets odd:
NO IVF coverage (even though you use the same meds as IUI) Chat Icon BUTTTTT the monitoring and b/w is covered Chat Icon Chat Icon for and IVF cycle!!

I'm greatful for what I have, believe me!!!

Re: IF insurance poll

I chose "other". When I called our insurance co I was told no IUI and 2 IVF lifetime. When we met with the finance dept of my RE we were told that IUI is covered. When we get ready for everything we are going for IVF anyway.

You have one of three options:
1. Read over the manual
2. Call the ins company
3. Contact a potential RE and ask them to speak to the financial dept

you need to call your insurance company and ask what IF benfits do they cover.

I have oxford and they cover 10,000 lifetime for IVF and do not cover IUI's

Not all plans from the same co cover the same thing....I have Oxford but no IVF coverage.

ITA!! I actually thought about sending a letter to our Congressman about IF and insurance. It's appalling what we have to go through just to have children and the expense!!! Thankfully my insurance (Oxford) covers unlimited cycles of IUI and $10K for IVF max but for those that are OOP I can't even imagine how you do it. Chat Icon

Re: IF insurance poll

We are very lucky. DH's job has amazing benefits. We get full coverage of a lifetime max of 3 IUI's and 3 IVF's. In addition to all the meds and monitoring. We have the UH choice plus, so we pay a bit more for insurance but don't have to pay a 20% deductible on procedures, which would be very pricey for IF treatments. If we were through my work insurance we wouldn't have any IF coverage.

Only bloodwork and sonos, but it's 80/20 so I still have to pay for a portion of those.

Def call your insurance company.
Companies who use Oxford may each have different coverage. Companies can "buy into" different levels of infertility treatment coverage.

Re: IF insurance poll

$50K lifetime benefit, but just for IVF. IUIs are unlimited. I think that's really great insurance and I'm so thankful. But $hit, if DH doesn't get paid well, he might as well have great insurance! Chat Icon
