I think I already know the answer to this but curious what others think...

How old is too old for siblings to take baths together when they are of different sexes and oldest is a boy.

I'm not in that situation, but imo I would think when the older child is 4 or so whether they are same sex or different sex.

Not in this situation, but I'd say around 4/5 the older child should be taking showers so I'd probably separate them around that time.

My older DS (6 1/2) has not taken a bath with his little sister in at least 2 years. However, he's not a huge fan of showers, so he just takes a separate bath.

My DD is 6 and DS is 3 and they sometimes take baths together although DD takes showers most of the time. They like that play time where they splash in the water, soak my floor and have fun...I dont see anything wrong with it as they both know they have different body parts etc etc and its just play time for them.

DS is 4 1/2 & DD is almost 2 and they shower together just because it's easier but I will be cutting that soon because I feel like DS is getting too big for it. Sometimes DD looks at him like "what is that thing" lol!

Wow I hope I'm not setting my kids up for therapy already Chat Icon

DS is 4, DD is 2.75, and they still take baths together.

I guess I never really thought about it, I figured I'd know when the time came.

They love it. They have a boy side girl side rule. He jumps in first and scrubs his parts...then she gets in. So his stuff is always submerged. If he was jumping up and down in front of her i think i would end it.

Hmmm, my 4 and 2 yo shower together sometimes but they are boys

I guess when the oldest one is 5? If they don't seem to notice, I don't think it's a big deal ESP if it's easier for you

We stopped when DS was about 4 and DD was 2. It was so convenient though.

I think you can go older than five, just keep undies on until the end of the bath - at the end, scrub each one down, and then out the bath, and then do the same with the other one.

Re: I think I already know the answer to this but curious what others think...

Can I ask what exactly is so bad about two kids seeing each other's private parts? I mean, they are kids, not sexual at all.

I wouldn't let it go till they were 10 and 8 but what's the big deal? I truly don't get it. No to be gross, but it's not like they are playing with themselves in the bath. They are getting clean and playing with bath toys.

If mine is standing there getting dressed...I don't fret about her seeing him naked.
In the tub though..he is just seems big all of a sudden, seems weird if he is standing there scrubbing and she is at eye level with it.
I am also a cleaning nazi lately with him since he has to pull back skin and soap it up.

Yeah I don't get it either. I'm surprised at how young the line is drawn. I have two DD so will not have this issue, but I'd have said much older.

Re: I think I already know the answer to this but curious what others think...

My DS is 5 and my DD is 3. They still take a bath together and I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. They don't talk about each other's private parts, don't try to touch each other, they play with the bath toys or pour water over each other's heads. It's easier for me, saves time and has never been a problem.

I will know the time is right to separate them based on their behavior. I imagine it all depends on the children though. If one starts to make a big deal about private parts or if one becomes embarrassed about their body or if one starts trying to touch the other, obviously it's time to split them up. But unless you are having those issues, why not make life easier and let them stay together if it works?

Exactly the same, Noah is 7 next week and Immi is almost 3, they love their baths together. I don't see them stopping anytime soon.

Re: I think I already know the answer to this but curious what others think...

I think as long as they are comfortable being naked in front of the other it's fine. As soon as the first sign of modesty, I'd separate. I am pretty laid back in that I think nothing of being naked in front of my kids. My DH is much more modest and avoids any chance encounter with spying eyes. So much so that I roll my eyes at him.

I sometimes bathe all three together (DD 5.5; DD 4; DS 2) and they are all aware that they have different parts and that their privates are only shown during bath/shower and while getting dressed.
