I think it also has a lot to do with the way the show is being marketed. LAST PLAY AT SHEA. So fans are rushing to get seats.

Well, we do love him And the only reason we went nuts this morning is because a couple of years ago we had tickets to his concert and we sold them We regret it soo much. So we decided to try again this year

I've been to one of his concerts a few years ago. He's very talented, and I like most of his music, but I can't understand how anyone can get gaga over ANY celebrity.... whether it's a musician, movie star, TV star, etc. The year before they became famous, you wouldn't have blinked if they bumped into you. I don't get excited about anyone, even if I enjoy their work.

Yes, my all time favorite historical Beatles concert happened at Shea (it's my favorite live footage of the Fabs- I used to watch it endlessly)- but that's about the only good thing.
Oh wait....anyone remember Subway/World Series 2000? Game 5 anyone?

ITA everyone has their own taste in music, its ok if you're not in to Billy Joel, but hey at least we're all getting excited about someone who's been around a while and is a legend, not like Britney Spears concerts or something and I think the hype is also b/c its the last concert at Shea, that's probably the only reason I was able to get my hubby even slightly interested in going!

i LOVE Billy Joel & have seen him in so many concerts. I didn't get up early this morning to just try for them, I was already up & showered  With that said, I wanted to be at this concert not only bc it was Billy Joel bc it will definately be a concert to be in the "history" books. It is like the Beatles playing there.

I do have performers that I'd do anything for good tickets...like when my sister and I drove to Philly to see Prince 10th row floor. I could not get good tix in NY or NJ, so we went to Philly, saw the concert, then drove back. It was so worth it to me!
Prince must be awesome to see in concert!!! I would defiantly pay to see that. Billy joel ehh not so much, but dont mind his music.
Prince was amazing in concert....I saw him at the Garden and it was one of the best shows I've seen.

I like Billy Joel's music and saw him concert a few times but it's the same over and over -- there hasn't really been anything new in quite a while.

Billy Joel is just one of those concerts you can go to and know all of the words to all of the songs. It would have been nice to go but I am not heartbroken over not going. I have been to his shows for the past 20 years and the older he gets, the less fun I have.
Prince, however, was one of the MOST incredible and dynamic shows I have ever seen - pure magic. I can't say "magic" about Billy Joel and I am a native LI-er.

Hey, you're entitled to your opinions. Billy Joel is my all time favorite artist. He is my big sister's favorite artist, and she had me listening to him at a very young age (she's 10 1/2 years older). I love his music. I love the stories he tells with his lyrics. I love the lesser-known songs more than his greatest hits. I've seen him in concert around 10 times. I am also a huge Mets fan, and have had many, many great memories at Shea, so this concert is very important to me.
I know plenty of other LIers who are not Billy Joel fans. We all have different tastes in music. I feel the same way about DMB. I saw them in concert once and was bored. All their music sounds the same to me. I know other people are HUGE fans. Tis what makes the world go round!

i love billy joel with a capital L but everyone is entitled to their own taste. He just reminds me of my childhood and growing up on LI, so I jump at every chance I get to see him live, not to mention he's a great entertainer and always puts on a good show.
