Re: i just want to help all CIO moms....
Bumping this because DS is 3.5 months and I'm counting down the MINUTES until I use this technique!
Would be interested to hear how old DC were when people used this (or other) CIO methods.
WIth DS it's falling asleep on his own that's the problem, not necessarily staying asleep... he needs the swing to fall asleep for naps and a boob or bottle for bedtime. He's young, I know, but I like knowing that this ammo exists for when he's older. (but how much older?)

we tried this around 4.5 months and it did not work at all. going in to her and leaving her got her more and more upset - she would cry so much she couldnt catch her breath. when we finally gave in and picked her up she seemed so frightened by the experience - eyes wide open and just trying to calm down. i nursed her to soother her finally but it took a while. 2 weeks later we just let her cry on her own without going in and that is what worked for us. she cried for 1.5 hours for 3 nights and that was it - sttn even since. it was really hard to do it, but her cries that way were more whimpers and tired cries - when we went in every few minutes it became screams
each child is different - go with your gut on when to try it. at 4 months we knew dd didnt need that middle of the night feeding which is why we did it.

I'm not trying to bash the op at all but this isn't some secret method only in this post that needs to be bumped through the years, lol. It's the method that can be found in the book " Solve your Child's Sleep Problems". There's A LOT of q&a/ detailed description in the book if anyone is interested.
