I hate car shopping

I just can't stand the sales process. I even feel bad for the salesperson. I went to look for a car by myself because it's easier than going with DH and kids. I told the salesperson up front I'm not going to buy now, I have to look at a couple different cars and when I know what I like, DH will come with me. But, I had to go with a salesperson to a lot 2 miles away just to look because they didn't have a model in the showroom. Then they want my info. They understand I'm not ready to buy, but they want to give me a price. Ok, fine. Then the manager wants to talk to me...this is where it gets really annoying because the manager just doesn't accept that you don't want to buy the car right then and keeps trying to sell and you have to basically stand up and walk out on them because no matter how many times you say thanks, I'm not ready to buy and I have to leave, they keep trying...

I feel your pain, went by myself after my car accident in July, had to sit, negotiate and deal with all the BS by myself. They made all kinds of remarks and tried to make me feel like shit. In the end I broke them :)

If I was a Jack, Richard or had a Richard sitting with me they would never say the nasty remarks. Plus, its easier to leave when two walk out.

I actually put off buying a new car for so long because I absolutely loathe the process. But, I have to say, a few months ago, I applied for my own financing online, looked up the cars I wanted to see at the lot and printed them out. Walked in with my financing, looked at two cars from my list, test drove them both. Agreed on a price, and they did try to tell me I couldn't get an instant discount noted on the website if I didn't finance with them. I said okay sorry have to go now! Came back 5 minutes later with the discount. Picked up my new car later that afternoon. It was such a good experience, I was shocked!

It can be very frustrating. In our experience with luxury brands anyway, Audi was the worst offender of this and it turned me off to buying the car.

I know it sucks!
Luckily the last time we were looking I found a lease deal online for the car we wanted. I emailed 2 dealers in the area and asked- do you have this exact car for the price you advertised in this color.
one of them was shady and wouldn't give me a straight answer.
The other one was like -yes, I have it, at that price.

We went there, drove it and signed that day for the exact price advertised.
No negotiating as it was a deal.

Period the end.

That was the best experience ever.

i shopped around for 7 months. After a while you just dont give a shyt and tune these salesmen out. The more you know about the vehicle, the better off you will be. LOW ball the hellllllllll out of them!

Ugh I LOATHE car shopping. I refuse to lease a car because I can't be bothered w/ the nonesense sales pitch. When I bought my 2012 Honda I spent about 2 months visiting dealers all over LI and Bklyn/Queens and walked out of at least 3 because they wouldn't give me the price I wanted. I started out w/ TruCar and worked my way through all the dealers until I got the price I wanted.

I hate how salespeople size you up and determine whether they want to even spend time on you and how aggressive they are once they smell you have $$ to blow. The dealer I ended up buying from (Nardy in Smithtown) didn't high pressure me, nor completely ignore me and my family when we walked in. DH is in the market to upgrade his current ride so I am just starting the process now and not looking forward to it at all. I think he is leaning toward just buying the car via private party just to avoid dealership drama.

I really wish they would come up with a way to buy cars online.
Like, shop online, pick your car, options, etc- then you get a price. And it's a bottom line price- no negotiating.

You don't negotiate with Best Buy when you buy a TV, you don't negotiate with Macy's when you buy a pair of jeans.

Then you can go to a dealership to test drive the car and see it in person.

And if you want it at that point, you can sign the papers at the price you already set online.
No haggling, no back and forth to their manager, no stalking you for weeks after you walk out.

If you think about it, the car buying process is very very archaic.

I hate car shopping too. I always feel like I am getting duped. Next time I might use a car broker that my aunt recommends and uses.

Whenever I go to a dealership, I tell them upfront that I need to leave in X min because I need to pick up the kids or whatever place I need to be. Most recently went to the audi dealership and said I had only 20 min because kids got out of school, which was absolutely true. I gave them my license, took a 8 min drive around the block, talked about upgrades and took the guy's business card.

I can't deal with car negotiations. DH always handles that and he does his homework beforehand. We bought a Volvo suv earlier this month and DH almost walked away because they wouldn't throw in any upgrades on a new car. Another dealer took 12k off and gave us the hybrid for basically the same price as the car we originally wanted. DH went for that but wouldn't pay full price for the non-hybrid car.
