I feel so lonely at the playground

Everytime I go to the playground I feel like the loser lonely mom. I notice most of the other moms go with friends and since I don't have any mom friends in my town and I am not usually a SAHM (I am on maternity leave), I feel so lonely at the playground with DS and DD.

Re: I feel so lonely at the playground

I was just thinking that the other day when I went to the park, I work evenings so I take DD to the park all during the week and all my friends are working during the day(although most don't have kids anyway), so It's just me!

I go to the park alone with DD all the time. I normally just go to two small local ones. I'm the crazy mom who strikes up a conversation with strangers. Chat Icon

I do the same thing! I'm sure some people are totally put off by it.. but I have made a few friends and acquaintances by just saying 'hi'! and starting a little conversation with fellow moms!

Re: I feel so lonely at the playground

Where do you ladies live? Everyone here is so nice and helpful maybe you can set up playdates at the parks. I live in wantagh and if the weather remains nice I will be taking DD out for walks if anyone lives close by. She's going to be 4 months

I used to feel that way but some moms are really friendly and are open to chatting.

I wish you were at the park with me yesterday then. Chat Icon I am a pretty outgoing person, but for some reason I just have trouble striking up a random conversation at the park, it's like I get intimidated. So weird I know!

Re: I feel so lonely at the playground

That was me last summer on maternity leave. I walked everywhere and sat in the local playground by myself.

The easiest way to start a conversation...ask a question or compliment their children. It's something that you have in common and everyone loves to talk about their children.

Re: I feel so lonely at the playground

I know what you mean...the park solo sucks.

I am the nutty annoying woman in the park that will bother you though

usually my pick up line is...she's so cute, how old is she?

I am part of a moms group, and do have 2 regular moms I meet up with...but at my neighborhood park, I have started getting to know the regulars.

If they are a mom, they probably want someone to speak to them. We are all out for the same reasons.

Yep this is what I usually do. Compliment the child and ask how old he/she is. If the person is friendly and wants to talk they will normally tell you and ask some things about your DC. If not you will get a one word answer.

Re: I feel so lonely at the playground

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon reading about grandmas now.

I have my Tuesday morning coffee date with 1 mom and 2 grandmas. (while kids are in art school) i like the grandmas, they talk about something other then the kids.

and at the park, the grandmas are the ones that tend to keep the kids in line better then moms. but it is funny to hang out with grandmas.

Re: I feel so lonely at the playground

I feel like a loser at the park solo too! I am kind of shy to begin with but if someone talked to me, I would be so grateful! If anyone wants to meet up and be losers together, FM me! Chat Icon

also, I go to a Mommy and Me once a week and the other mommies are nice, but their children are a little bit older than DD. The baby that is DD's age comes with her grandma and grandma and I have TONS to talk about!

Re: I feel so lonely at the playground

I used to feel that way too but now since my DD talks to every kid and every mom at the playground it's much easier to get to know other moms. I live in Farmingdale and didn't grow up in the area so it's great when I meet other moms so I can ask a lot of questions like what Drs. they go to and such. If it wasn't for DD though I probably wouldn't find out half the stuff I do. I used to want to talk to other moms but I'm not the most outgoing person if I don't know you. KWIM?

Me too! I work during the day though but I am always willing to meet up @ a park in the late afternoon or weekends. I go to Firemen's Park and Daniel Street school on my short walk often. Are you that local to me?

Re: I feel so lonely at the playground

I don't pay attention to it. Actually, when I am usually at the park it's just us. There are really never any kids (at least at the times I go) so I am used to being aloneChat Icon .

Monday I went to a different park that is about 10 miles from the house and it was crowded. It was hard for me to keep an eye on my two without having a conversation so I don't feel like I am missing out.
