I did not get the shot while PG, rather 2 weeks ago and I am someone who NEVER got one before. I felt guilty NOT getting one. Though I am not going back to work for more than a month yet, I DO worth with kids and I DO get sick or pass on colds and other things to DH. He's a big guy. If he can get sick from me, I can only imagine what could happen if Abby got sick. A PP was right, it is very dangerous to babies (as well a older people) not necessarily to people in our peer group.

The bottom line is that you have to do what's best for you.

I didn't want to get it but my mom and husband were nagging me to get it so I just caved in.

Yup, that's the other part of this whole things. My parents are VERY upset that I have declined the shot. So now I have my own guilt but then another layer added onto that.

I have never gotten the flu shot but I work with young kids who are sick all the time. I will be PG all winter and I am afraid of becoming very sick. My OB recommends it after the first trimester. I will probably get it.

You shouldn't let anyone guilt you into getting or not getting the shot - I got it for my reasons as I'm sure there are many who didn't get it for theirs. You are the only person who should make that decision based on YOUR comfort level... Please don't let a parent or other person make you feel bad for doing what you feel is the right thing (no matter what that choice is).

There are a lot of things I don't want to do that I am doing because I think it is best for the baby. (flu shot, glucose test, breastfeeding) I wouldn't do anything if I didn't think it was best for the baby.

My friend said it best, "it isn't just my body anymore; it's the baby's and mine."

I took my doctor's advice and got one. I doubt the CDC would recommend it for pg women if it wasn't safe, but whatever you are comfortable with.

I had such a hard time deciding whether to get it for my son or not. I declined, then brought him back this week to get it.

I am also going to get it after I have the baby. I don't know why, but its such a hard decision. There really is no right or wrong answer.Chat Icon

It's so strange how many different things you hear. I specifically asked my OB about it and he told me if I was going to get the flu shot, I needed to get one with low mercury.

Then, he continued to say that the low mercury ones have a short shelf life so they run out quickly and that I probably wouldn't be able to get one. He didn't seem concerned about me getting one.

I completely trust his judgment so I never gave it a second thought. Now I am confused...Chat Icon Oh, well... I guess all I can do is listen to my doctor.
