It's very upsetting. I wish I could take them all in.

I think I am going to lose my mind if anything ever happens to her I sware to u I will never be the same.. She was with me all day today.. We went to pets plus then to the bagel store, Some woman said to me oh you are going to have to babies soon it looks like.. I loved hearing that .. My response was this is my First baby.. Too bad if I sound mental.. She has given me more joy these past 3 years that I ever could have imagined getting.. I refuse to get another one just not to take anything away from her.. The baby comming is not scaring me anymore.. I know she will be fine and love my baby just like I will,, She will have a little sister!!

D, everything WILL be fine. I assure you it will work out b/c you will make it work out. DD is now giggling at the doggies and it makes my heart melt. My dogs come into baby's room every am to say hello to me and her. My male dog was LICKING baby's feet the other day, he NEVER licks anyone.

And I put my DD down on the floor with them the other day. THEY WALKED Right past her. She is just accepted, part of the pack, and they KNOW that. What's so cute is when DD goes to sleep at night it's mommy and doggie time. My dogs will sit by me and won't go up to bed until DH and I go up to bed.

They reallly do adjust, just do your best to make sure she doesn't feel left out. Sometimes of course i can't pick them up if I am busy with DD. And it breaks my heart that I turn them down and they walk away. But when I have a chance, I go to them then and they just accept my love. They don't hold grudges. They just want love and give love.

Lola may have a hard time adjusting but she may not. Either way I know you will do just fine, you will make it work.Chat Icon

I don't know if this was somewhat directed towards me or not..but...

For the record I am not considering re-homing my cats simply bc I'm pregnant....I am concerned because they are peeing all over my house...1) concerned about my family & my child's health and 2) we have spent a LOT of $ redoing our house only to have animals p!ssing all over it...it may be a temporary thing...it may not be. They may be reacting to my hormones or the fact that "their" basement was redone..I don't know...but if it's not temporary - THEY may be happier elsewhere...for all I know....

Like I said it's a LAST RESORT for us. And I would ONLY give them (together as brothers) to a home where they will be comfortable AND where I can visit them! I would never ever just give them to anyone or to a shelter or anything like that..

I am the person who will stop traffic to rescue an animal!

Not one bit. You don't need to explain, this has nothing to do with you. It's a comment in general about something that happens everyday.

I have had animals all my life and after having DS my 2 yorkie's became very jealous and almost daily poop randomly in my house. it's disgusting and tonight DS walked in it Chat Icon Do I want to give them away, of course not. But with another baby coming, if it gets any worse it's just not fair to anybody.

Re: I am so sad- all these posts about having to give up pets

I think sometimes it's a tough call....

I love Misty to death..she is my baby, sleeps with me, sits with me and is so protective of me...she has spent every moment of my bedrest on the couch or in bed with me. My heart melts whenever I look at her.

But, I can honestly say that if she were to go after our baby when he is born, I would have to rethink everything. Would I get a trainer first and try to fix the problem? Of course! But if it becomes an aggression issue, the obvious answer is that she would have to go. I wouldn't take her to a shelter, but if I had to rehome her for my childs sake, I would.

That being said...the only reason I agree with getting rid of an animal is aggression or allergy issues. Almost any other issue can be worked out.

this is how I feel too. I wasn't susprised that Murray is having aggression issues with Katelyn - b/c we have been dealing with these issues for years. I refuse to give up though. But it is a lot of work. They can never be alone in the same room. He is coming around though and starting to connect with the baby more. If she cries in her crib he goes in the room and whines. I feel like we are getting somewhere.

The other day my nephew kept hitting him Chat Icon and Murray wasnt even reacting, just playing back, which was Chat Icon So I know he has it in him to be good with children and tolerate kids being kids.

I agree and I even tend to think that I would try allergy meds 1st (for ME, not sure about my child) if this was the issue

It is a difficult situation all around and I think everyone needs to do what is best for THEM

Re: I am so sad- all these posts about having to give up pets

I see it from a different point of view

Pokey - my persian cat is a rehomed pet

I took him in at 7 years old - and he now has a much better life then he had before

He was 1 of 5 cats before- and wasn't happy - he even ran away once and hid under a bed in the upstairs apartment for 3 days

he is now the king at my house- and I would do anything for him

he got really sick with crystals last year and I spent a fortune saving his life- I can say for sure that his orginal owner would have spent the money

having pokey changed my life- I am very thankful the his orginal owner couldn't care for him anymore- b/c he changed my life and I know I give him a much better one

This is a great story. Just unfortunately most of the pets don't wind up with an owner (let alone an owner as caring and loving as you). Chat Icon

It makes me very sad too. I even went so far as to send someone off of craigslist a "how dare you" emailChat Icon It was some woman who had to get rid of her cat because she was pregnant and expecting soon...does she think her cat is going to steal her kids breath or something?Chat Icon She wrote be back and let me have it but i still felt better having said something.

In defense of the pregnant woman on craigslist, I don't know her exact reasons for getting rid of the cat, but I don't fault her for it. My sister had been scratched by our cat as a baby & developed cat-scratch fever (yes, it does exist). She almost died.

My cousin's son, at the age of 6, also got cat-scratch fever from their cat, and he too was EXTREMELY sick. He was taken away from the babysitter's house in an ambulance b/c his fever was so high that he started seizing. He was in the hospital for 2 weeks, and is on anti-seizure medication for the rest of his life.

Personally, I would not let my baby anywhere near a cat (when I have one, hopefully soon!). JMHO, only because of my family's experiences.

Not doubting you, just surprised to read this since I have owned and handled over 20+ cats/kittens in my life. My friends and family all had cats/kittens. I have been scratched a billion times by many kittens too. I wonder how common it is since you know 2 people who got it, yet I don't know anyone who ever had this?

This blows my mind as well.
I would rather die than give up my cats.
I would seriously live on the STREETS with them before I would just give them up.
I have pretty bad allergies too aroudn them... but I take meds when it bother me. Simple as that.

The thought of it is so disturbing to me that I can't even think about it too much because I get sick.

50% of cats have carried the bacteria at some point in their life that causes cat scratch fever. It's transferred from one cat to another through fleas (the cat can lick you or scratch you to cause an infection). The cat that infected my sister was an outdoor cat, and at some point or another I'm sure it had fleas. The cat that infected my cousin's kid was an indoor cat but it sometimes went outside. This all happened in Florida, and I'm sure it's more common because of the weather (bacteria breeds more rapidly in hot weather), but I'm very cautious around cats now because of it. My sister had lingering health problems throughout her childhood because of it.

Maybe it's more common there b/c of the heat...as you said. When I go to my vet next month, I am going to ask him how common it is here. Also I may ask my ped. I just never heard of this ever. And my family was neurotic so I would have heard it, for sure!
