I guess I'm in the minority, but I wouldn't be furious. I would be mad, yes, because he was definitely out of line. But I also don't see a slap on the hand as the same thing is a slap in the face or something like that.
NOBODY should lay a finger on your child. I don't care where or how, you do NOT slap/hit my kid.EVER. Period.
