How would you feel - Nanny related
If you saw your Nanny posted facebook updates from her mobile thingie during time she was supposed to be caring for your kids?
Not sure about anyone else, but with the cost of childcare as it is, I'm not happy. I don't pay her to be on line or on her phone unless someone's in the hospital or dead...
I'm so anti-tech. Just venting...

it honestly wouldn't bother me. i know i go online when i'm with my kids. i know my mother, who watches my kids, goes online and talks on the phone when she's watching them.
as long as she's not spending a long on there when the kids are awake, i don't see it as a problem. when the kids are napping, that should be her time unless you have her doing things like housework.
also, it can literally take 10 seconds to post an update. i know i pop online to check my email at work, and i'm not neglecting my duties at all.
that is my opinion.

I don't think it is a big deal.
However, I've witnessed nannies who are on the phone ALL day long. There are a few nannies at the playground that are literally on the phone the entire time.

This totally happened to me within the last few weeks. It was one of the many reasons I let her go. At dd's age she should be doing activities not sitting online. Not sure how old your dc is but mine is 3 and isnt asleep while this is going on. I agree with you.

It would bother me. You are her employer so I would let her know it's not okay. I don't think daycare workers in a center are allowed to text or surf the internet on their phones while in their classroom so I don't think this situation should be any different

I personally don't think it's a big deal. I do day care in my home and I use my cell and go online. There is plenty of down time when the kids are here so when they are napping or sitting in the high chair eating I might hop online or text my friends. It doesn't mean I am not watching them or doing my job, I am just taking advantage of some free time. If that's the worse thing your nanny does consider yourself lucky and don't sweat the small stuff.

It wouldnt bother me in the least, because I feed both my twins at once while checking facebook on my cell phone. I do it out of habit, boredom etc...so I know firsthand how it doesn't mean she's not taking care of the kids.
But your right, you pay her, so if you have any concerns, you should mention them.

If it was during naptime, I wouldnt care at all. When the children are awake, I would not like it at all. I'm blocked from access to FB at work because I am being paid to do my job, not play on the internet and I don't look at a childcare job as any different...

The only way it would bother me was if it was ALL day long... then its an issue for me. But other than that, really wouldn't bother me. I think it's good for kids to have independent time without someone being up their butt all day. At first, DD was being held alot during the day, etc... and it seemed like she was getting a bit clingy (where she didnt have that before we started leaving her with anyone), but we put a stop to that. Obviously babies need to be watched all day, but i know, for myself, that i can be on the computer and still pay attention to DD, so i would assume the same for a DCP. But, if its something thats getting to you, you should communicate that to her before it starts getting to you or escalates.

I agree. It can be done on a cell/BB in seconds. If it bothers you, however, mention it to her.

If it were excessive, I would be annoyed. Because like others said, you are PAYING her to watch your DC.
But a few updates throughout the day...no big deal. Especially if she is doing it during nap time.
