How to handle this. A pushy parent
I would be very matter of fact and tell him that you have made it a priority to arrive early to get a spot and you will not move your car. There is no reason he cannot bring his other child with him to get his preschooler. I cannot imagine leaving my sleeping baby locked in the car to sign out another child--is this what he is doing?

Why don't you guys help each other out? You can go get your child while he stays outside. Then you stay near his car where the baby is sleeping and he goes in and gets his child. I've done this with other moms when picking up DS from preschool. One mom stayed near the babies in the car and the other mom got the preschoolers. We cleared it with the teachers.
You have to sign your child out. They won't release any child without and authorized person there to pick up. I don't want to add taking his dd out of school to my responsibly. I know that sounds bratty but that's a lot of paper work just so he doesn't have to park and take his younger son out of the car.
In that case I would offer to stay by his car while he signs his child out. I guess I am sympathetic to his situation because I've been in it.

I understand being sympathetic to his situation, but his situation would disappear if he would just get there 10 minutes earlier. The kid is asleep. Why can't he get there earlier? It doesn't seem like he struggled to get out the door on time because his kid was having a rough day ... he's just being lazy.

I would tell him sorry. Who cares if his 8 month old is sleeping in the car. Wouldn't he have to take him out of the seat to go in an pick up the other child anyway.
One would think!!
But I have seen a lot of parents leave a child in the car to go in and pick up or drop off another child -- some younger, some older, but kids either way... and it makes me so worried. All it takes is a moment and anything can happen
I personally think that depends. If you're like 25 feet away with a direct line of sight to the car and you take your keys, I really don't find it irresponsible. At our school basically every single parent leaves a sibling in the car. I guess imo it depends on how the dismissal/ building is.

You're not bratty...it isn't your responsibility at all. He's a grown man and a parent he should be able to figure the situation out himself.
I wouldn't be offering myself to stay by the car while he goes and signs out his child. These are his children and his responsibility.

How to handle this. A pushy parent
Where my younger one goes there is a staircase we have to climb. We are always watching each others babies at the bottom. That's totally different imo bc there's nothing any of us can do short of taking sleeping babies out of the strollers etc. Your situation is different bc one, you're not helping each other- it's just you helping him over and over and two, he has an obvious remedy right there in his face- GET THERE EARLIER!!! If it were me I don't think I'd get the nerve to be like listen buddy I'm not doing it anymore. I think I'd get out of my car for a day or two and see if that makes him realize. If that doesn't work I'd say something. I also wouldn't bother saying anything if this situation ends in June- but if it's like a daycare situation, yes you have to nip it.

Are we sure he is being lazy? Maybe he is rushing there from somewhere else and can't get there any earlier.
I am surprised at the lack of compassion for another parent.
I think that he has gone about it the wrong way and has rubbed you the wrong way, and now you don't want to help him because he seems like a jerk. Perhaps if he had asked nicely the first time, instead of double parking and being obnoxious, you would be more inclined to help him.

How to handle this. A pushy parent
All for "convenience" and his "lack of planning". I wouldn't be nasty to him, but I'd explain how I plan ahead for things like this, and it would benefit him getting there 3 minutes earlier than you so he can have the spot fairly. Let him know what time to leave his house, lol

Re: How to handle this. A pushy parent
Just tell him no, I think you been more than accommodating to him. Things like this irk me, like his time is more important than yours. Everyone has somewhere to be or is rushing from somewhere. I have been in tight pinches and wouldn't ask someone to move. It's called life and being a parent.
It's not your job to get there early to hold a spot for him, bump that.

Re: How to handle this. A pushy parent
Tapping on your window and asking you to move it really pushy. I would completely ignore that rude and selfish behavior.
"I can't help you," would be my one and only reaction.
Sorry to hear you are dealing with this jerk.

How to handle this. A pushy parent
I might have missed it in the posts but why is he late? why assume he is lazy etc, perhaps he is a single dad and first has to pick up the baby which makes him late to the school or perhaps his work schedule is not as flexible and it makes him late. I don't agree with him tapping on your window but Im not sure it makes him an ass or jerk. Maybe he lack of social skills or mommy sense.
so you can tell him you cant help or probe him and find out why he is late, then make a decision.
Best of luck.

I don't fully follow. Why would you move if you are also waiting for your child? No way. I can't stand when people think the world owes them.

Re: How to handle this. A pushy parent
Sure, maybe he's in a bind or can't get out of work early, but how many other people in that line are in the same or worse situation and make it work without expecting others to bend over backwards for them. Parenting is hard, no one said its not, but you do what you need to do and make it work. This guy sounds like he's just being annoying and asking (aka guilting people into) bending for him. Sleeping baby, or no sleeping baby, he sounds like an entitled arse.

Re: How to handle this. A pushy parent
I pick up my son from nursery with my twins. It's a pain in the butt to take them out of the car and put them back in again, so I get to the school about 15 minutes early so I can park next to the door and just scoop him up when they come out. If I were to get there late one day, there is NO WAY that I'd ever ask someone to move! I'm late, which makes it MY problem and no one else's. I think you're very very nice for moving for him, but I'd definitely stop. It seems like now he's taking advantage and counting on you to move your car. To make it less awkward and confrontational, I'd get out of my car and wait by the door like others have mentioned.

I agree. I would have a huge problem with that. I take my 7mo to pick up and drop off my son. If he is asleep in the car I either lugged the car seat or as he got bigger I would set up the stroller and snap the car seat in. I always got there early to leave myself time. Once the weather was so bad that I called the office and asked them to walk my older son out to the car so I didn't need to take the baby out. If baby is awake I will wear him in the ergo so I don't need to mess with the stroller. I have never left him in the car. I always try to get there early to get a good spot and because I hate to parallel park so I am picky about spots. I wouldn't move on a regular basis for him
