How to handle this. A pushy parent
I pick my dd up from preschool everyday. I get there early to ensure I'm never late. Everyone parks in a line outside the school. Since I get there 10-15 mins early I usually get a spot close to the door. One father is always pulling up last minute and trying to squeeze in between cars or double parking. The past few weeks he beeps at me or gets out of his car and has asked me to move because his son is sleeping in the car. His son is 8 months old so I did it a few times but I'm fed up. Today he got out of his car and taped on my window and asked for my parking spot. He has asked other parents to move too but he seems to have locked in on me this past week. Since I hate confrontation I moved today but it's annoying to me. He should just get here early or stop being so lazy and park in the line and take his son out of the car.

Nope. I would even get out of the car and maybe wait by the door now that it's nicer out, so that he is less inclined to think that I'd be willing to that I would walk back to my car and move. If you are out of the car and away from it you are settled in.

what? that's his problem that he's not getting there early enough to find a good spot! Do not move for him...that's crazy!
I would actually get out of the car and wait outside now that's it nice out!

Great idea.
He sounds like a real jerk btw. How dare he ask you to move. I hate confrontation too, but I think I'd be so pissed, I would say something.

This! And I take my sleeping 5 month old out of the car daily to pickup my older child at pre-k. That's the beauty of the infant carrier!

This! I like to get to our preschool early too so I can get a spot right out front so my twins can walk from the door straight to the car. I also have my 2.5 year old that I take with me to drop off and pick up the twins and sometimes he falls asleep and sometimes he doesn't but if I can't get a spot right out front then I park in the parking lot. I would never ask anyone to move their car just because I didn't get there in time and have a sleeping child in my car. Definitely park the car and wait outside since it's so nice out now.

Re: How to handle this. A pushy parent
I do usually get out 5 mins early. Sometimes though I just want to sit in my car for those 10 mins take a phone call or do some reading and it annoys me that I have to get out of the car. I've been thinking of saying something like "not for nothing but if you really want to park close you should get here earlier". I just don't want to sound rude but I guess I shouldn't really care because he is so rude.

This guy sounds like a douche. I would tell him I'm sorry but I have been waiting here for 15 minutes and won't move. He needs to learn to get there early if he wants a closer spot.

Also, by trying not to be rude to the a$$hat, you're probably pissing off the other parents that got there and waited in line the way they are supposed to.

How to handle this. A pushy parent
If you want to avoid confrontation, I'd get out of my car and wait outside the school now that the weather is nice. If you're not in the car, he is less likely to pull the whole "tapping on the window, can you move your car" crap. If you want to nip the problem in the butt, stay in your car and the next time he asks, say no and explain that is why you get to the school early.

Re: How to handle this. A pushy parent
I'm curious - what's the alternative? Does he have to park far away and walk over to get her? Or does the 'line' move so each kid jumps in the car when it pulls up?
Sorry buddy - this is life. You can't get there 10/15 min early that's fine, but youi park your car and take out the other kid - It sucks that he's sleeping, but we're all parents, and we've all done it.
It's basically like you 'hold' the sport for him - where do YOU have to then go when you move for him?

ugh, once or twice fine, as a nice courteous thing to do for another parent, but the fact that he expects you or others to move every time, OH HELL NO!
He is just going to have to take out the other kid and walk or arrive earlier. not right at all, and you should def say something. I understand you don't want the confrontation but you can still get the point across in a nice way.

btw, as to what to say, say something along the lines of "not for nothing, can we not make a habit of this? I understand you have a child but you can park there and walk with the infant carrier or arrive earlier?"

Wow, what an entitled jerk. The world, or parking lot, does not revolve around him.
Plenty of other parents, soon to by myself included, will have to deal with a newborn and picking up a 2 year old at school.

Wow he's got some balls on him. He's taking advantage of you now. Next time he asks just say no and roll up your window. No explanation needed.

Just another self-entitled jerk. I would tell him you have done it a few times before for him and you are done.
Next year I'll be taking a 3 mo old out of the car for pickup and wrangling 3 yo twins back into the car. No clue what the parking situation will be, but I'd never ask someone to move for me.

I would tell him sorry. Who cares if his 8 month old is sleeping in the car. Wouldn't he have to take him out of the seat to go in an pick up the other child anyway.

One would think!!
But I have seen a lot of parents leave a child in the car to go in and pick up or drop off another child -- some younger, some older, but kids either way... and it makes me so worried. All it takes is a moment and anything can happen

That is another thing that drives me crazy. No matter where I parked I'd never leave my kids in the car but that isn't something I'm going to even bring up. I've decided next time he asks me or beeps at me I'm going to tell him that he needs to arrive earlier that I have helped him a few times but I won't move. I know he will be pissed but it's just not my problem.

Re: How to handle this. A pushy parent
What an azzhat! I would just tell him politely that I've kindly given him my spot out of courtesy several times already but he's making an inconveniencing habit out of it now... and that you get there early on purpose so you can get a good spot and perhaps he should start doing the same. That's life! You show up late you get a crappy spot, you don't start inconveniencing everyone else. I wouldn't move for him anymore. Beyond that I'd just start ignoring him. Take your phone calls in your car and if he taps on the window ignore him or just shake your head NO and continue your call. He'll get the message.

Why don't you guys help each other out? You can go get your child while he stays outside. Then you stay near his car where the baby is sleeping and he goes in and gets his child. I've done this with other moms when picking up DS from preschool. One mom stayed near the babies in the car and the other mom got the preschoolers. We cleared it with the teachers.

You have to sign your child out. They won't release any child without and authorized person there to pick up. I don't want to add taking his dd out of school to my responsibly. I know that sounds bratty but that's a lot of paper work just so he doesn't have to park and take his younger son out of the car.
