how self absorbed are you?
do you only talk about yourself or can you talk about other things?
I would like to think i'm not self absorbed, i mean I talk about thinkgs going on with me. but i know that there are other people in the world.

I'm not, but my ex-friend was.....I would tell her something that was going on with me....She'd say, "oh really?", then go and talk about herself for hours.......I cut her off.....

The one person in my life who does this-- it took me a while to figure it out-- but now I TRULY believe that he/she has NO idea that he/she is doing it.
NO IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Which is astonishing to me b/c I'm very self-aware but I think he/she was raised to act that way and to think that acting that way is "good"...
So, yeah, it's tough to be around him/her but I do it... It helped when I realized that it was not done on purpose or in a malicious way-- So, I let a lot of anger go and realized that they are just all about them-- and totally oblivious to it.

there is one woman in my office who can take any topic on the planet and turn it around so its about her. i really try to ignore her, other then hello and good bye. its very frustrating listening to someone like that all day.

I think I used to be moreso but now that I have learned to relax and my anxiety over the things going on in my life has lessened I am much more able to really focus on someone else. BUT, I used to think when you would relate something you experienced to what someone else is talking about it was a way to connect but now I realize it just looks like you are self-absorbed or competitive so I don't do it anymore.

I have one acquaintance who NEVER stops talking about herself. She doesn't even pause so you can change the subject. She makes me 
DH has a friend like this. It drives me nuts. I can't even have a conversation with him anymore. Anytime you try to tell a story or share something, he ALWAYS has something about himself that relates, or at least he THINKS it relates.
He definitely does not know he is like this.

omg that is soooo the person i was just talking about above!!!
it's amazing too b/c if it happens to be a topic that he/she CANNOT turn to themselves, which is rare, they just kinda wait for a pause and then just CHANGE the subject all-together back to THEM!
I used to get pizzed-- now, I just have to laugh

I get annoyed, but then tell myself that she really means no harm and she doesn't know any better. and she is older so its kind of like, whatever. smile and nod and move on.

I think I come off that way because I have noticed that when someone tells me something, I talk about myself and I mean to sound like I understand because I have experienced the same thing but I think it really comes out wrong and I am trying to work on it.

I am the same exact way. I don't want to give an impression that I only care about myself, or that I know everything. But it is my way of relating to the situation.

I don't think I am...I have a friend that totally is... it's so weird talking to her sometimes...
Here is an example:
Me: Hey how are you?
Her: Good - what's new with you?
Me: Oh,... working, same old.
Her: My life is SO good right now. I think I'm in a really good place in my life right now. I feel so focused and in control and I've set some really great goals for myself that I am well on my way to attaining. I'm not really into the dating thing right now - I think I just need the "Me" time so I'm really just trying to focus on myself and my new career which is going so great btw. All the people I work with are just so great and I just love them all. I'm so happy here. I can really see myself flourishing and growing in the job...
And this will go on and on and on... it's WEIRD. Who talks about themselves that way??? You would think she just came out of rehab or something but it's just the way she always talks about herself.
