how much would you pay/what would you charge

how much would you pay a SAHM (so unlicensed) to watch your 15 month old from 8-5 M-F.

would you answer change if she had 3 kids of her own ... even though one would be going to school full time in september


if it was you being asked to watch a child in the above situations how much would you charge.


FTR - this is not me in this situation at all Im just wondering if my numbers are completely off base and Im crazy for even thinking what Im thinking

Most likely will being driving with the kid cause they would be dropping the other kids minamilly to school

35 to 40% less than a daycare would cost wherever you live IF very convenient.

A friend of a friend does this. She has three kids of her own (2 will be in school in the fall) and watches three others. She gets paid 400 cash for each child. She provides food and drives.

You can get a nanny in your house for about 400 a week so I'd expect to pay less than that because I have to drop off the kid and they are not the only child needing attention... I say 250-300

You can send your child to a licensed childcare center for $350 per week, or so, so I would not be paying $400 per week. Although it is more one-on-one, I would not want my child to be driven anywhere, especially if it was just to drop off another child, etc.

I would def not expect to pay when your child does not go, because that should be one of the perks of sending her there, and not to a school. As far as provididng meals, it would not bother me to provide them, so I would offer that.

I would say fair would be around $250-300 per week. Any higher, I think I would look into other options.

I would probably charge 200 a week to do something like this. I would supply the food to answer that question. Paid the same regardless of sick days, unless they were not with me practically the whole week.

I had people ask me what I would charge to watch a child at home. I thought long and hard about it. I would charge 200 a week and food would be included unless there were special restrictions.
I don't drive anywhere unless I have to so I wouldn't take on the driving portion but if I had to I would tack on another 50 for the week to drive because it is a lot of work to take all those kids out.

For me personally I don't put a lot of stock in the "licensed" thing. You have to feel comfortable with the person watching your children. And just because someone is licensed doesn't mean they know what they are doing. (I am learning this now the hard way).

we pay $55/day... food included... dont pay when we don't go (which I think makes up for not claiming it on our taxes...)

we pay our babysitter 6 and hour (thats what she asked for) we provide food. she has children but they are school age and can walk themselves to school. we do not pay for sick/vacation days.

I would say about $300 per week including food plus the occasional extra for a fun day out. As a sahm I think it would just be easier to serve the same food to all the kids to eliminate fighting. And I think it's only fair to let them drive your child. It's exhausting to stay home e every day all day long. The kids will want to go to the playground, library, occasional play place.

see i was thinking along the lines between 200-250 but really more closer to 200.

I cant believe people would pay $400 for some one to watch ONE of thier kids for the week. 2 kids i can see paying that much but for one no way.
Where my DC goes to daycare at license center(in around the same area this would occur) its only $322 for a newborn 8-6 M-F (price goes down as they got older)so i am shock what people are willing to pay

I aslo feel the person being paid is not getting any taxes taken out and that should really be considered in the price.

Like I said this is not me in the situtaion and she wasnt sure what to charge i told her how much i would probably pay and other people where telling her different numbers so i was wondering who was off base me or them seems like neither of us

i pay my best friends sister to watch DD 3 days a week - for $11/hr. She picks DD up from us - I provide some foods that i know DD likes but she feeds her for the most part. I dont pay her if she doesn't watch her. It ends up being more than daycare but DH and I work long days and this is super convenient for us. She has 2 kids - 1 in school and a newborn - fine with her driving DD (She picks her up).

We pay a SAHM $55.00 a day or $275.00 per weel 8:30-5:30 to watch our DD
She has 3 of her own kids (2 are school age) She also watches other children. We provide my daughters meals, and she does drive with my DD when she has to run her children to gymnastics, karate etc.

$200 is very very low to me. That's only $5 an hour for 40hrs a week. I would charge minimum wage and if you wanted her to provide food $1-$2 more an hour. You're basically hiring a live out nanny for your child/children.

I watched two boys in my house when my DD was younger.

One boy was here Mon-Wed-Fri and she paid my $65/day for 7:30am to 3:30pm. She did NOT pay me when he was sick. She provided ALL of his food and his pack n play for naps.

The other little boy was here Mon through Thursday from 7:30am to 3:30pm and she paid me $90/day. She paid me when he was out sick. She also provided all of his food and a pack n play for naps.

I never drove either child, I saw no reason for me to take them out and about......I didn't feel comfortable taking another person's kids out in the car. I did take them for walks in the neighborhood though.

As for taxes, no, they didn't claim any childcare on their taxes so I did not provide a tax ID. I was paid cash, off the books by both parents.

I pay my SIL $65 a day for 7:30-3:15. (she watches him two days, if it were 5 I might do less per day)
