How much in gift card to give for kids party?
I decided from now on I will only give gift cards for my kid's friend's birthday parties. I don't have time to go shopping for toys so I'll just stockpile some gift cards instead. How much is an acceptable gift card amount? I would probably put a small toy or book with it so there is an item to open if I can. Is a $20-25 gift card acceptable for a kid I don't really know? I have no idea about etiquette with this stuff since I used to just give toys that I'm sure they have enough of.

That's fine.
I usually do $25 if I am giving a gift card to a classmate's party.
Most gift cards DD got at her friends party were $25

Smart idea, just make sure they don't have expiration dates

Everyone on LIF seems to be super generous...but in my daughter's circle $20 seems to be the going amount for birthday gifts. Especially if you're throwing in something for another $5-$10 dollars.

Maybe Target? Not sure. But DS got a gift card to Barnes and Nobles and I thought that was a great idea.

The stores aren't closing so the gift cards are still good.

there's no need for customers to freak out yet. Toys R Us may have filed for bankruptcy - but that does not necessarily mean that its stores are closing.
Chapter 11 bankruptcy is a way for Toys R Us to restructure and renegotiate its roughly $5 billion in debt. It's not a death sentence for stores. For example, retailers such as Eddie Bauer and Aeropostale have kept stores open despite filing for bankruptcy, though both brands closed locations following the filing.
"At Toys R Us, we're taking the right steps to ensure that the iconic Toys R Us and Babies R Us brands live on for many generations," the company wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. "Most importantly - It's business as usual! All of our stores around the world are open, and you can also continue to shop online."
In other words, while Toys R Us may announce some closures in the future, there's no need to panic just yet.

DD got a gift card for $100 for her birthday fron a classmate! She wasn't even a close friend!
I almost fainted!
Totally not the norm though. She got about 5 or 6 other gift cards ...all $25

My DS (aside from TRU) got gift cards to Barnes and Noble, Build a Bear, and I've also given ones to Benihana and the movie theater for kids where the mom tells me they have "enough crap"

We used to give $25 gc from B&N or Amazon and a book or something we knew the kid likes. DS is older now, almost 12, and it seems the norm now is $50 gc - since he only invites or gets invited to close friends parties.

That's VERY generous...Do you think it could've been done by accident? Who the heck gives a classmate they aren't close with $100! Haha. You should totally befriend these people.  jk

I have no idea but I was flabbergasted! I am not sure if they are loaded or just clueless on going gifting rates.
It was crazy!
Eta...i would love to know what they give at a wedding!

How much in gift card to give for kids party?
i usually spend about $25 total for classmates we don't know. so a lot of times i'll do a small toy/ lego set for like $10, bc i think kids like having something to actually open. and then i'll get like $15 on a gift card. i usually do Target bc its close to me, and i know DS LOVES going there and scouting out the toy section LOL
DS had a classmate give him a $25 movie GC last year, and i thought that was great, too--- fun outing, especially since his bday is in november and we need indoor stuff to do...

Yup for DS classmates / friends I give $20-$25 ..and usually gift cards too. Places like the movies, Michaels, game stop, etc.
