I guess I would count 401k for this question. I put about 30% of my pay into 401k; DH puts about 8% in. After that, we put about $1800/month into savings. Honestly not sure what percentage that is b/c off the top of my head, I'm not sure how much DH brings home a month.
You're allowed to put that much into a 401k? I thought the max was 15%.
Yep - as far as I know, the only limit is that you can't contribute more than $16500 in the year (for 2011 - it might go up in 2012). When I am about to hit the annual max, I stop contributing to it altogether.

before the wedding i was saving about 15% monthly. now I'm in debt. DH saves about 10% while i pay off "my" debt. (he thinks its my debt even though they were wedding expenses  )

I have no idea. It varies a lot. Some months, we save nothing & we dip into savings if we're having work done at home, car needs repairs, taking a trip, etc. Other months when the bills aren't so much, we could save a thousand or more.

nada. we're trying to pay off our debt. this doesn't include money that goes into 401k/etc. That we don't mess with.

Its horrible...I only put away $100 a week from DH's paycheck in a savings account in a different bank than our primary bank. And I've been putting $50 a week from my paycheck towards daycare which is going to start up for us in June/July when I finish maternity leave. The $50 is NO WHERE NEAR what we will need, but I'm trying to at least decrease the burden for later.

Prior to DS being born I would try to save 50% of my salary. Since that time though we moved, DS was born, and we have daycare so that # has gone down to 18%, but it's something.

For 401K-1600 a month. But I may reduce and try to put more into liquid funds which is now 200 per month.

10% into my 401k
7% into DWs 401k
$300 into savings account each month
and normally we put an additional $4 - 5,000 into an IRA at the end of each year to max it out.

Besides 401K's we (DH and me) don't know what SAVE means either!  Its really not funny, but we just bought a house and every time we turn around there is another unexpected expense...I guess it will be a while before we can really start a solid budget that includes saving! But congrats to all the savers on this board! that really is awesome!

Just straight savings alone, we put $650 into our savings account and $200 into DS's savings account. That does not include 401K and other investments.
I think we each do 8% into 401K.
We also have universal life insurance policies which are really like savings as well.
We save A LOT. To be honest, we though we wouldn't be able to keep up the pace with DS and the cost of daycare, but we have. I am not sure we'll be able to keep up with DS #2, but we're sure going to try.

we try to save $3 grand...sometimes fall a bit short or have to help out family. We also have stock purchases and 401k in addition to our cash savings....prior to DH I saved NADA (despite being a high earner) so I'm very grateful that he's so diligent about these things.

It varies. We had 11 weddings last year and we were in most of them so we were spending money like drunken sailors and saved less.
Now we are saving like crazy, baby will be here in October and I plan on staying home so we are putting a lot away.

this thread makes me  I don't know how people are saving these days. You are all very lucky. Between owning a home and taking dramatic pay cuts, I am lucky if I can save $150.00 a month. Thank god we have a decent amount still in savings otherwise I'd really die.
