Another Spinoff: How much do you save each month?
I know its not going to be a very efficient poll since some people will include 401k/529/etc... but i guess i'm looking at it as how much do you save after everything's paid each month in your savings account (or left over in checking, whichever ).

we don't have a set amount since our bills aren't always the same price.
basically dh just transfers any "extra" money we have into savings once or twice during the month.

Re: Another Spinoff: How much do you save each month?
We don't have a set amount either just transfer what's leftover after the bills. Unfortunately, for the last 2 months with Christmas shopping and oil bills we did not put anything into our savings account. Hopefully, this month will be different but we did just get an oil delivery.

If i worked FT, even after daycare we'd still be able to do that- but its amazing how much your priorities shift when these little ones come along!
It's definitely been an adjustment, though, to not just buy whatever you want whenever you want it. I wouldn't say we were struggling b/c we're not- we still have a nice savings and put some away each month, but i still go back and forth sometimes with my decision. Honestly, i LOVE working PT and being with DD every single day (when i work, i work nights), and i think that that's more important than the extra $$$, but it still pops into my head once in a while.

This sometimes inspires me to stop at 2 kids but I think in a few years, $2500/mo. to daycare won't exist - we could really enjoy ourselves But in my heart - I know I'll be daycare poor for many years to come

We each get paid 2x a month, we generally put one of the 4 checks into online savings account
Only exceptions are Dec and Jan

I have $100 every pay period direct deposit into a credit union acct I had when I lived in Albany in 1987.
Then I'll transfer some $ from my checking to savings at my regular bank.
I also try to put at least $100 a month into Ann's savings account.

part of DH salary is on commission...so it could vary
we can usually predict which months we can save more than others and those are the months that we do house renovations...

Re: Another Spinoff: How much do you save each month?
We put very little...maybe $100 or so each month. I'm trying to pay down our credit cards so it leaves us pretty much living paycheck to paycheck.

Re: Another Spinoff: How much do you save each month?
We save $200 a month. This is ONLY because I take $50 from each paycheck and put it aside as though it doesn't exist. We pay ourselves FIRST.
We make do on what remains. It gets tighter and tighter - but I'm not changing that amount until I absolutely have to.. which will be coming soon!

Re: Another Spinoff: How much do you save each month?
Currently I am saving 900/month because I am PG. I was putting this money toward our house/cars previouyl but I have to prepare for the cost of delivery and my weeks off not paid. Basically everything I saved will probably be gone when I go back to work. Our income is not set since DH works for himself so this savings is aggressive for us.

Re: Another Spinoff: How much do you save each month?
it varies. lately we've been dipping in rather than saving b/c of the baby expenses, me not being paid for some of my leave, and DH taking a paycut this year.
but, DH is getting his salary back so i hope to start putting money in, even if its $100 bucks a month.

we're working on rebuilding the stash since I've gone back to work after the baby. I was out for 3 months unpaid.
we're lucky to have forced savings through our employers

Re: Another Spinoff: How much do you save each month?
between nothing - $500. Some months are nothing ( Christmas for Example) and then in the SUmmer we do better...overtime etc makes a difference. My husband lost almost $1200 a month in overtime this year, which he had been making consistently for 5 years...That money hurt us a lot, and then we had twins ( diapers, formula, clothes etc)..so we are in a rough place right now, but it always seems to come and go ( the flow of $)...Of course its also b/c we are on one income...I cannot afford to work, b/c daycare for 3 would mean No savings ever...

Re: Another Spinoff: How much do you save each month?
it depends really.
We started with a decent savings, had added to it. Once or twice dipped in it but put the money back.
I make comission and DH does a lot of OT so it can vary month to month.
Most times its a lump sum.

According to our budget, we are SUPPOSED to save $3000 a month...Do we? Nope. We will though since can't stand our landlord and want our own place ASAP!

Not counting 401K etc, I have no idea. DH & I empty our change daily/weekly into DD's piggy bank.

Re: Another Spinoff: How much do you save each month?
It depends. Some months we save some (a few hundred usually) and other months we need to dip into savings. We will be "dipping" more when I am on maternity leave.
