How much do you save a month?

We've been having big conversations over here about saving money. In the few months that we've been married our agreement was that DH pays for the rent and his bills and I would use my paychecks to pay off our credits cards and then put money into a savings account.

However, I'm really trying to get DH to put SOME of his money that he has leftover after the bills into a savings account.

So I'm wondering -- how much do you save a month -- if you can figure it out -- a percentage would be obviously most helpful as we all make different amounts of money per month.

And please state if this is just you, just DH (if you're married) or the two of you combined...

Right now...about 40% of our combined gross...we're saving for a house and banking my salary, while living off his.

After we close next month, it will go down to about 8-9% a month. At least, that's the plan...hopefully we'll be able to swing it with the mortgage.


ETA: The 40% savings is only doable b/c we are paying very minimal rent while living in a small apt.

We don't pay rent, and we are currently debt free, so we are able to save as much as we feel possible every month. We save around $3000 a month.

Right now we are not saving anything...DH has some debt from before we were married that we are working on paying off. After we are debt free we will start saving.

We put $200 a month in an account which is never touched.

We have "slush" funds for other things - Christmas Club Account, and a Vacation Account, which all get funded every month.

DH and I own a house and both work. We save my entire income - about 35-40% of our combined income.

we set aside about $2k/month, and some goes toward a high-interest private student loan and the rest into an emergency savings account since DH's employment situation is now much more profitable but much less stable.

i put about $1k/month toward a credit card that's 0% (for now) to pay off a bunch of furniture we needed when we bought the house. that should be done pretty soon, and then that money will go into the "house fund" every month.

DH and I both work and do not own a house. We currently are saving for one. We live off of DH's paycheck and put my entire paycheck into savings which comes out to about 7k/month. I'm bad at math so its hard for me to come up with a percentage for you.

Not very much right now because DH is self-employed and most of his money has been going into the business this year.

I always try to put at least $50.00 a week into savings.

It can add up quickly and get us through most emergencies that can come up.

10% of my salary goes into my 401K which I refuse to touch for anything.

We save $1000 a month, we own a house, and I put a lot extra towards our owned car to pay it off, we also have a leased one. It should be paid off in June, then we will be saving $1400 a month.

ETA: This does not count 401k

I significantly upped my retirement to 15% of my salary. I'd say we put about 40% of our combined take home into savings.

3% into 401k
5% into Roth IRA
5% into cash reserve

I guess I would count 401k for this question. I put about 30% of my pay into 401k; DH puts about 8% in. After that, we put about $1800/month into savings. Honestly not sure what percentage that is b/c off the top of my head, I'm not sure how much DH brings home a month.

We used to save about $200/month, but things have been tough for the last year and we haven't been very good with our savings.

I would really like to know what people do far a living in order to save so much! Once we close on the house I think we will save about $500 a month.

I contribute a hefty amount to my 401k, but have slacked off on savings after going through some family issues. I just started working an extra job and will bank that $- about 800 per month.

Between 25-30% of our takehome. This doesn't include what we contribute to retirement.

Not counting 401k and 403b deductions, we save about $600 per month. It should be a lot more though. I feel like we spend too much.
