DS just turned 12 months and the only clear words that he says are Mama, Dada, Bye Bye, Nite Nite and Baba. That's it.

At 13 months, he has probably around 25-30 words (but some are approximations):
Mama
Dada
Nana
Papa
DD's name
Cat
Book
Boon for ballon
Ball
that
this
more
baba for bottle
give me
up
down
no
yes
nigh-nigh for night-night
tuck for truck
booo for blueberry (his favorite!)
bye bye
hi
mine

I know there are more, I just can't think of them now.

But honestly, most of what he says is all babble and gibberish at this point.

-Dora (or something very close to it)

-Ba (trying to say bye)

I was concerned when my 1 year old didn't say much. I work in a school and asked our speech pathologist. She said not to worry and that at 1, a child needs to have 1 word.. And also as long as is babbling and has vowel sounds. My DD started with only 1 work at 1 yr and is 14 months now and says

Mama
Ball
uhoh
bebe (for bottle)
Baby (She sings Justin Beiiber..."baby, baby, baby, ooooh) over and over again!
maw (for more)

She understands a lot more!!! I wouldn't worry.

I am an SLP and my Ds was doing the same thing at 12 months. I was nervous too but, he is still chugging away at 2. I still wish he was saying more and I can't get over what some of his same age friends do but, as long as DC is progressing I wouldn't worry.

Just keep modeling and bombarding with language. I have SUCH a hard time not worrying. So I know it's hard.

I was a little concerned about DD, but after reading this, I am more at ease. She is 14 months and definitely has her own bable language. She says Dada and I think she associates that with DH. Mama is just a noise She can understand some commands, like when we say where is the cat and she looks down to the floor. She does this hand flick thing when she wants a toy or her bottle or something. So she communicates in her own way, just not with words yet.
