How many gifts per child?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but how many gifts per child do you tend to give your DC? I feel like I always go into the holiday season with the intention of giving DD a few gifts, then as Christmas gets closer I get sucked into the 'spirit of the season' and buy more, only to wind up looking at a crazy pile of crap on christmas eve while I am wrapping.

I feel like after the first few toys it's just a crazy frenzy and she doesn't wind up appreciating each individual gift. Last year she was only 2.5 and I wound up returning half the gifts she unwrapped b/c she didn't play with them at all. She didn't realize it because she was little, I definitely could not get away with that this year.

And just to clarify, this isn't a how much $$$ to spend question, just a number of gifts issue. Perhaps it might be specific to my DD since most of the things she loves are Disney Princesses and I think I have purchased several different Belles/Auroras/Frozen dolls (barbies, toddler dolls, Disney store dolls, etc.) and it's just silly.

I hear ya!!! I get SO sucked into it, too!! LOL
I only have one DS- he is 4 and is REALLY into Christmas this year- the music, his Elf on the Shelf- everything. So I keep getting sucked into getting him more stuff bc I know hes gonna be so into opening them on Christmas morning this year!
I'm also a SAHM- so I kind of want to have a lot of stuff to keep him busy during the days- especially in the winter!!! I usually end up putting some of his new toys away and pulling them out on a snow day or something LOL
I think I got him about 9 or 10 presents. but none of them are huge things. an airport playset, a Planes movie playset, the Paw Patrol "lookout" playset, a remote control Lightening McQueen car...
That said, we don't have a huge family, so its not like he gets a ton of stuff from other people. my parents get him something, my in laws get him something (usually something little, and then give us money to spend on whatever he might need during the year...) and then my sister gets him something. my husbands an only child, so nothing else from his side.

My kid are older, tween and teen but when we took out the gifts to wrap, we counted to make sure they had about the same and they have about 30 each kid.

I only have one DD who is 4.
She is getting 15 gifts under the tree from Santa.
Plus a stocking.

Then gifts from her aunts and uncles and my parents and in laws.

I have one DD. She'll be 3 in March. She's very much into Christmas this year. She will have 20 gifts under the tree plus a stocking. I think I'm crazy, but she was so easy to shop for and I know she's going to be so excited.
She also gets from my mom, dad, sister and brother. Present overload! Plus my mom is like Santa too with the number of gifts she gets.

Too many to count and honestly it's ridiculous. I told DH this is nuts because after the first couple they don't appreciate it and it's mayhem. My twins just turned 3 last month. We have a big family. By the end they still had so many unopened gifts and I told everyone to hold onto them for Christmas. All those gifts and of course they only play with 2 dinosaurs and the damn Paw Patrol Lookout Tower!

I get what I think is appropriate. It varies each year.

I finally took it all down from the attic and dh went nuts and counted it all because he thinks I went over board and I did. One dd has 16 and the other dd 19, plus stocking stuffers. I know it's a lot plus all the gifts from grandparents. Aunt uncles it's a lot. I just can't help myself!

My kids get eight gifts from us, one for each night of hanukkah. They get one big present and seven smaller ones.

Tonight I am going through everything to wrap and I'm sure I will be returning half, if not more, of the things I purchased.

My kids are getting 12 gifts from Santa to open and new bikes. Some of the gifts are small thinks like a frozen plate, new pjs etc

They also get one gift from us each year. This year the boys are getting Hess trucks and my DD is getting a bow holder filled with new clips/bows to hang in her room.

I like the idea of them getting one wow present from Santa and then sharing done of the other ideas with family because my family loves giving them gifts.

I think close to 10, definitely not more. Her first xmas at 8 months she got 3 and last year it was about 5. She gets tons from family so I really have to limit myself since no one else does. I'm actually surprised I ended up buying that much. I bought one gift for my newborn and wrapped up two unopened baby toys I found in DD1's closet to make it look a little more even.

We got DD 7 or 8 gifts to open plus a bike. And a few stocking stuffer type things.

Dd is getting about 10 or 12 gifts from Santa. A few 'big' gifts, like a dollhouse, train set, talking doll, and then several smaller gifts like books and games. We also are giving her a few small gifts from us on Christmas Eve bc that's when dh and I exchange out gifts and we don't want dd to feel left out. But the stuff that comes from us is practical stuff, like clothes and a robe. Santa will give her all toys and fun stuff. Overall we tried to not get her so much bc we have a lot of family members that get her gifts, so it gets kind of crazy. But every time I thought I was definitely positively absolutely done shopping for dd, I'd come across something else that I just HAD to get her and now I do think I might have ended up getting her too much. I already told dh that we'll see how much she gets on Christmas Eve from her grandparents and aunts, and if its a lot then we might not put all the presents we got her under the tree.

I tried to keep it low key/maintenance this year-they're only 2. I bought them mostly puzzles and books, 2 outfits each and blankets. I also purchased two toy-chest and has them hand painted/personalized to store all their gifts. That's my real "big" gift. I think it will be useful throughout their life and the other things I know won't go to waste. They love books and puzzles. It also makes me feel good to do that for them.
They have a ton of family and friends so I know some other toys are coming their way anyway.

It never occurred to me to even count them. I don't have a set number or any "rules" when it comes to Christmas gifts. I just buy what I think they will like.

Somewhere around 8 each from santa. Always Stick to $150, some are bigger some smaller

My kids get a crazy amount from one set of grandparents and some giftsfrom others . we have a tough time putting everything away. Plus we give them a gift xmas eve.

This is making me feel much better! I'm not done wrapping so I haven't done an official count but I think each kid is getting around 10, maybe less. DH is making me feel guilty about that, saying it's too much. So happy to hear that people give more! I can't imagine doing less than we are. Especially when they're very little and have no concept of "Well you're getting less gifts because this one was really expensive".

honestly too many. I do this every year since have DD I always over buy and then have buyers regret when I am wrapping them all up I cant help my self I like to give her everything she wants and I tend to get really good deals so I justify buying more my DH cant stand it!! last year I snuck some away cause she didn't want to open anymore and I gave them to her for Easter (they weren't big gifts)
this year I think she has about 13 not including her bike, trampoline (its a mini trampoline) or Frozen castle. DS has about 10 I think ... he is one and I told my self I wouldn't get him a lot ... yay well that went out the window
that's not including their shares gift of a TV and DVD for the play room (DH idea) and a huge lego duplo set.

the only way I justify this is that DS bday is mid novemeber DD bday is January 1st so I don't buy them a lot for bdays just xmas and I try to get gifts that are age appropriate for the whole year since they wont get anything new for their bdays during year. I do put some away and take them out through out throughout the year.

Also no one else buys for them except my parents, one cousin and one set of really good friends.

We have about 4 from Santa and 3 from us. They get generous stockings with books and workbooks too.

Our 1.5yo is getting the shaft in terms of number of gifts, but she won't know or care. She's inherited toys from her older siblings and I know after her big one (a doll stroller) she won't be interested in playing with anything else.

4 gifts each...that is MORE than enough.

I only have one DD. We bought her 8 things. Then, she gets from my mom, sis, bro and uncle. So, it's about 13 presents altogether.
