How many bottles do we need? Come in BTDT moms too!

I am trying to make sure we have the basics all set for when we come home with our LO.

Anyone have a suggestion of how many bottles are needed and what sizes?

I plan on breast feeding (fingers crossed) and pumping.

I had 4 of the 4oz bottles (we did playtex nursers, the ones with the disposable bag) and then 4 of the 8oz bottles. We didn't use the 8oz until she was a few months older.

We are using Playtex Ventaire and FFing. We have 6 of the 9 oz bottles for twins. Since we don't have a dishwasher, we don't want to get more bottles because then it'll just be more to wash at a time. The Ventaire have parts to clean so it can get annoying.

Right now they're taking about 5 bottles a day each, we wash them at night and 1 wash once during the day.

Definitely get a bottle drying rack it saves so much space!

Thanks ladies! I have a drying rack and recieved a starter set of bottles of various sizes from our registry. I think I will go from there and make sure we have at least 4-5 (which seems the norm so far) and then add on if necessary.

We also do not have a dishwasher! LOL

And Jess I know! I am in shock over how time has been flying!

Get a bottle brush too ... Sponge on the end and bristles above that.

I BF and supplemented with formula. We used the playtex drop in bottles so the bottles don't actually have to be sterilized between uses since the milk goes into a plastic insert. I had 4 or 5 of the 4 oz bottles and enough nipples for one day's worth of feedings. That way we just sterilized the nipples and rings once a day. I then got 4 or 5 of the 8 oz bottles and again enough nipples of the next size for 1 day's worth of feedings. Made life MUCH easier.

If you planning on pumping alot I'd get about 6 bottles for the beginning. You may want to get two different brands too just because sometimes they will prefer one over the other.

Crashing... It depends. Mostly BFing or mostly pumping? If you're going to be an EBF SAHM for awhile, and just want bottles to replace an occasional feeding, you could get away with 4-5. If you're going back to work after a few weeks, you'll want more.

There are a few brands of bottles that are better for EBFing. We used the first Years - Breastflow b/c they're the closest to nursing from an actual breast. Another friend swears by Playtex drop-ins. (Those might be best for you; there will be less to sterilize). Get a few of each kind b/c you don't know what the baby will prefer.

So far we have Advent bottles and that is it. I will look into getting something else to try if the LO is finicky.

I will be a SAHM for a few months, then back to work.

I used playtex drop-ins, so prob 3- 4oz. bottles and 5 or so 8oz. bottles.

I really only needed 2 a day.

I think I had 6 of each size, 4oz and 8oz.
