How long is long?

I have a question - When do you think you would start to feel that you have been TTC for a "long" time? 3,4 6, 9 months, 1 year??

I am in my young 30's and this is my 6 month TTC. I did TTC once before but had a m/c but I trying not to count that time.

Thanks!

Re: How long is long?

Each time I passed one of those milestones; 3mos, 6mos, 9mos I felt like we had been ttc for a long time. Looking back I realize at that point it really hadn't been that long. Now at a year I feel like it's been a long time. I'm sure at some point in the future I'll look back on the year marka nd think "That wasn't really that long of trying".

I really hope you get the next BFP on this board. I remember you from my first round of TTC last year. After my M/C I changed names for a fresh start. If you dont mind my asking what is the next step for you? Has you doctor recommended anything?

Re: How long is long?

I'm actually not sure. When I first started trying I started seeing an RE almost instantly because I knew I was going to have issues. I only waited till 2 months off the pill to start getting help. In total it took 6 months to get pregnant from the time I went off the pill. I didn't consider that long at all.

Then I lost the pregnancy at 4 1/2 months and I'm back to trying a year from when we started trying the first time. I would say now it feels like a long time. Its been a year since I started trying the first time and I'm not pregnant (even though I was).

Re: How long is long?

at my age i would think 3 months is long. in reality i know it isn't a long time at all but i am an impatient person. in all honesty if it doesn't happen for me in 3 months i'll be disappointed. i know it's not realistic to think that way but i can't help it.

in reality i would say closer to 1 year is a long time....if nothing happens for me after 6 months i will see a doctor (as per my doctor)...

Re: How long is long?

For me, 1 year is a long time. If it takes 6 months (of hard core trying) then I will see the Dr.

Re: How long is long?

At my age, my Dr. said 6 months of trying come see her. I'm 36

For younger, I think one year is considered a long time.

Re: How long is long?

I think it depends on the person....I'm 33 and I think the 9 month mark is going to feel like a long time for me but DH & I agreed that we wont take any steps towards a Dr intervention until we surpass the 1 yr mark.

Re: How long is long?

I think its all relative to the person going through it...

i was talking to my cousin yesterday who got her bfp after 3 months... she said even then she had thoughts that it might not happen.... She's a year younger than me... she'll be 29 in December...

I really hope you get the next BFP on this board. I remember you from my first round of TTC last year. After my M/C I changed names for a fresh start. If you dont mind my asking what is the next step for you? Has you doctor recommended anything?

Thanks so much! Well, we actually did an IVF cycle over the summer. When it didn't work we decided to take some time off from fertility treatments and just go back to trying on our own. Our insurance doesn't cover anything fertility related either so that played into our decision. right now I'm on metformin to help with insulin resistance which is a symptom of PCOS and DH is on a cocktail of vitamins to help with his morphology issues. For right now that's all we're going to do. In January I'm starting a new job and it seems the insurance they offer may have some sort of fertility coverage. So once I'm eligible for that we'll probably head to Dr. B and go from there.

I pray for you ladies everyday! I hope you as well as the many others that are having trouble get your BFP soon. I hate to admit it but sometimes I lurk on the infertility boards just so I know who to prayer for. My heart goes out to all of you. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: How long is long?

My gyno told me that he wants women my age (28) to try for 6-12 mths before coming in to see "if something is wrong".

If we are trying 6 months--I am going to him.

ITA - every milestone felt like a long time but the year mark was really tough.

I think once you reach 6 months it starts feeling like a long time but for someone in their early 30's I think up to a year is normal. Good luck! I hope this is your month!

Re: How long is long?

Thanks everyone! I am in my young 30's so I guess 6 months isnt that bad. I think I will wait a few more months before I make some more calls.

MrsDevito - I am glad your new insurance may be able to help you out with this. Hopefully you get a BFP before then!
