How long do you use a sippy cup before throwing it out and getting new ones?

I was talking to my coworkers today and they were saying how gross tervis cups are cause you use the straw over and over. I said my kids drink from sippy cups its not gross. What am i suuposed to do train them using open cups?? They said yes. Mind you these are 2 ppl who dont have kds. So it got me thinking how often are you supposed to use them before replacing?

I change them about every 2 months. The ones with the straws do get gross sometimes so I wash them with soapy steaming hot water, and than they get sterlied every night.

My straw sippy cups have been handed down from DS #1 to DS #2 so 2 years.
I wash them like a loon with the Dr Brown's pipe cleaner. They do not smell & are perfectly clean.

when they start to get beat up from chewing on edges or straws...A LOT longer than I bet people will say...but I use the dishwasher and take all parts completely apart...so i feel they get good cleanings often!

The straws gross me out so I just use the Playtex insulator cups. We've had them forever. We just started letting the twins drink from regular cups at meals a few months ago (they will be 3 in May).
