How frequently do you paint?

How often do you re-paint rooms I your house? When we bought our house 4 years ago, we painted every room. DH just said to me, "it's almost time to re-paint". I feel like it hasn't been long at all and everything still looks good. Do you re-paint every certain number of years? Do you wait until you want to change the color? Or when a room looks like it needs to be re-painted?

My parents painted their house 10 years and haven't repainted yet. Not sure what is normal but I feel like 4 years is too soon as long as your walls aren't all banged up or scuffed

That's what I thought. DHs comment surprised me. The walls aren't scuffed or anything. Definitely seems too soon. DH is crazy lol.

lol maybe he is just tired of the color? We just bought our house two years ago and painted before we moved in the furniture......I wouldn't even dream of painting again in two years.

How frequently do you paint?

We painted almost three years ago and I was just telling DH we need to start thinking about repainting- overall most of the walls are ok but the doors and moldings have a few chips. I feel like it needs to be "freshened up". My parents always painted every few years.

Re: How frequently do you paint?

Only if we are redecorating/changing a color. I have never had a room start to look bad.
DH despises painting more than any chore on the planet so we paint aa little as possible

I highly doubt he's tired of any of the colors. I don't think he could describe the colors of any room in the house if he wasn't sitting in it Chat Icon . His standard answer when I ever ask him anything about decorating or picking out something for the house is "I really don't care - just get/do whatever you like". He generally has ZERO interest in anything to do with decorating. That's part of the reason why I was like Chat Icon when he said that lol.

Re: How frequently do you paint?

We painted in 2008. It's getting time to repaint only to fix the cracks that have developed. My walls are plaster, and they crack easily.

Other than the cracks, the paint looks good.

It seems I get bored with our colors and decor every five years or so. We are in our house nearly 11 years, and with the exception of our living room (which needs to be completely re-sheetrocked) every room in our house has been painted twice. I am getting ready to redo our bedroom, last painted in 2009.

I'd only do it if it started to look bad or if I wanted a change. I wouldn't do it just because "it's time".

My DH is the same as yours. he thinks you have to paint every 4 to 5 years to freshen up the paint. I think it's a waste of time & money, especially since I do not want to change the color.

I'm not painting again unless the walls start falling off

I hate painting

We did it almost 5 years ago and it still looks good. No need to

So unless we redecorate a room and the color doesn't go, it's all staying as is

How frequently do you paint?

We just did our room, which was done when we moved in (almost 8 years ago) but our room just didn't look good, needed a new color...my DD had hers painted when I was PG with her (almost 5 years ago) but we decided she could pick a big girl colored room-we won't do it again unless it looks like it needs it..

Re: How frequently do you paint?

I literally JUST repainted our bedroom last week after moving in 10 years ago and painting then. But I have repainted the living room and dining room 2x since moving in.

I moved into my house 5 years ago.

I have re painted every room in my house except my son's room, my room and my living room. All to change color not because it needed it

My living room is starting to need it but we have vaulted ceilings and DH says its staying this way for a while.Chat Icon

If you repaint every 3 or 4 years you will get so many layers of paint on your walls very quickly! I'd say paint can last 5-10 years, depending on wear and tear.

Re: How frequently do you paint?

It depends. I tend to get bored long before the paint ever looks like it needs to be redone because I love changing up colors. Certain less used rooms (like a living room) can go longer without needing repainting. High traffic rooms like bathrooms and kitchens need it more often for sure.

This is going on our 6th spring here. I'm repainting the whole house in the next few months. Walls are trashed and I want to prep to sell, so when Dh pulls the trigger I can just slap a for sale sign on the yard.

Re: How frequently do you paint?

Not until the walls start to look bad. With kids I think it would be more frequently. DS drags things along the walls, etc. so I could see us needing to touch up a wall or two in a few years. But I wouldn't go room to room and repaint every wall.

We painted back in 2013 but need to repaint this Spring because I have two boys that wipe their hands, bang their toys, and draw all over my walls. So unless there's wear and tear, I wouldn't bother for a few years.

Re: How frequently do you paint?

We only paint when it starts to looks like it needs it. Some rooms in our house have to be done pretty often. Some of the other rooms... it's been almost 10 yrs and they still look good.

I completely agree!!

Unfortunately - its working up to be just about that time for me... Chat Icon

(And DH is a sloppy painter - so I either have to get over it... or do it myself!)

We bought our house 4 1/2 years ago and painted it then. About a year ago we just repainted all the base moldings. We have 2 kids and a dog and it made a big difference!

Pretty much this.. Chat Icon I may paint (or have DC paint) DC's rooms if they have a real opinion about their room color, but that's about it. It's been about 8 years, and the paint still looks good, so I'm not even thinking about painting anything at this point.
